Look at all that local talent.

You nailed it with the lineman...   particularly hope it works out with Fontaine.

I can understand all the local guys making their own individual choices... maybe they want to get out of the area, see the world.

But all of the locals should be able to believe that if they collectively stayed... they could be build MD up.

It's interesting how the other Big Ten teams are in with all of the locals as well.  Really important for Durkin to lock up more and more of the DMV....  but I also like that he continues to look outside the area as well.

The 2018 recruiting cycle is well underway! In my latest article, I take a look at the offensive players who the Terps are targeting for next year's class.

BSL: 2018 Recruiting Targets - Defense

 

Last week, we looked at Maryland's offensive targets for their 2018 class. This week, we focus on the defense.

3-star QB Devin Leary has committed to N.C. State, leaving 4-star Tyler Desue the lone remaining Terps QB target for 2018.

Desue will be announcing his commitment on Wednesday. The Terps are the leaders here.

Just watched Desue's tape, here are my initial impressions:

 

• He played in a spread offense in high school, which should help him in Walt Bell's scheme. Lots of easy reads.
• He has a very strong arm, and seems to have a lot of confidence in it. Good throws to both sides of the field, and fits the ball between linebackers and safeties well.
• He has good mobility. Excellent straight-line speed with some ability to make people miss.
• He throws well on the run, but can be a bit too quick to bail out of the pocket. However, he does keep his eyes downfield well when he does scramble.
• His footwork is really busy in the pocket. Will need to calm that down a bit.

Overall, he impressed me. As he should, being a 4-star recruit. He has all the raw skills to be very successful in college, will just need to work with a good QB coach on his footwork (as is the case with most high school QBs).

It's official! Desue has committed to Maryland. Huge pickup for Durkin. It's early, but if all stays the same they'll have three different former 4-star QBs on the roster next year.

He has been a major upgrade from Edsal.   Hopefully we see a gradual increase on the field.
