Freshman all looked real good. Bender a very nice night as well.
Wiley and Nickens better get going fast or they are gonna get buried. Wiley at least has an excuse. Jared has been a strugglefest for a long time now. He missed so many wide open, good looks from three.

I did think that the last one Nickens shot was a nice look that should've gone down but just rattled out. I also think his shot selection was just fine, his shots were all good looks which is encouraging that he is not forcing things though discouraging at the same time because they should be higher percentage shots. He doesn't seem like the type to get too down or lose confidence, so hopefully the shots will start falling like they used to his freshman year and early on last season. He really doesn't bring a whole lot else to the table, so he's gonna need to be a weapon from deep to be anything more than a 5-10 minute per night guy at the back of the rotation.

I rewatched the last 10 minutes this morning and although I have often been a critic of Turgeon's in game coaching, I have to say he did not miss a trick down the stretch last night. JT3 on the other hand coached like it was his first game on the sideline. Turgeon took full advantage of the advantage of Thompson's silly use of timeouts at the wrong time and the inadequate job the refs did with all the stops to check nothing on the replay camera's.
Well played Coach Turgeon, give yourself a game ball.

Nickens is not playing stupid, his shot is just not falling. He is sort of a one dimensional and other than the one made three and the nice take of the dribble for the pull up jumper, he did not add a lot.
I think over the course of the season though, he is going to have his moments, and hopefully they win a game or two.
The problem Nickens and Wiley have is that Huerter and Jackson are both really good. They will take their minutes. Huerter, has that beautiful stroke, plus he can handle the ball. He was often the break man off the press last night, when they trapped Melo and or Cowans. Also, his defense on the last play where he slid down the lane for the block, was terrific. Jackson played more of the 4 spot last night but he clearly has the outside game and enough of a handle to play the three too.
I like the way Jackson attacks the board going up with two hands in a crowd to snare rebounds. I told my son, he reminds me of a smaller version of Buck Williams.

The best part of what I have seen so far is that the three freshman, can really play. Cowan is lightning quick, and gives Maryland that second primary ball handler to go along with Melo. Jackson and Huerter played last night like they were seniors. I think we are really going to like watching those three grow up.

To me at first glance, Jackson is the only freshman who looks like he may not be a 4-year player, given his size, athleticism, and skillset. He also simply looks the most grown up of the three. Cowan is really small even with his speed and quickness and Huerter doesn't appear fast enough to be a 2 or big enough to be an 3, at least not to be guys that jump to the pros early.
Gonna be a nice core here the next few years with these guys. I think all will be major impact players for the Terps. Plus whatever new gems Turgeon can find, hopefully some big men.
