Come on, punch it in....  FG still gives MSU a chance to tie.

Terps get the W.

5-2 overall, 2-2 in Big Ten play.

Great games from Ty Johnson, and Lorenzo Harrison.  Baltimore's Kenneth Goins not bad either.

Hills did his job. Made good decisions. Didn't turn it over. Hit the open DJ Moore.

Savage's injury didn't look good.

Indiana next week.

Got back from the game about an hour ago. Headed to bed, but a few thoughts first.

Great win for the Terps. Perry had the offense rolling, and was making some clutch runs and throws (and you know that shoulder wasn't completely healthy). They don't win this game with Piggy in there, Perry was great tonight. Obviously the running game was what drove this team, with Ty and LoLo breaking off some huge runs. Two 90+ yard drives for TDs. First time they've done that since 1999. All credit to the offensive line there, doing work. That helps your defense stay fresh, very few 3-and-outs from the offense (as opposed to last week when Piggy couldn't keep the offense on the field to save his life). Defense was good as well, they bent at times but didn't break. Alvin Hill with that SWEET pick early in the game.

Two winnable games left on the schedule, and one comes next week. Would be huge to get bowl eligibility before you hit November. As long as Perry stays healthy, this team has a chance to win those games. Without him, probably not.

Perry Hills: 21-27, 200 yards, 2 TDs. Not huge yardage, but great efficiency and decision-making. How many times did you see him go through his reads, calmly operate in the pocket, and deliver an accurate ball? That's what you don't get with any other QB on the roster.

Edit: As far as atmosphere goes, it was decent. Nothing special. Students filed out at halftime, typical Maryland. Would rather hit the bars than stay to watch a good football game. It was cold and windy, but not really cold enough where it was horrible. Just seems like the students should be the more passionate fans in the stadium, whereas here at Maryland they're the more fair-weather ones who show up late and leave at halftime.

I was a little surprised at the atmosphere/attendance. Was it because Michigan State was coming in 2-4? I thought that wouldn't matter--that many of these students would still want to be there to see the Terps beat such a prominent program, regardless of their record. The conditions definitely didn't help. Being outside in howling wind all day is not my idea of fun. But that was pretty poor from the student section.

That said, if Durkin and company can get this program into the top 25, there's no doubt the student section can be just as rabid as XFinity Center. It's just going to take some time. Just a guess, but I'd imagine the buzz around the football team is probably exponentially greater these days, even if it isn't showing up in the stands as of yet.

People dont care about MD football. The students pulling that crap is especially unacceptable.

It's shouldn't be that hard to fill out the stadium vs. conference opponents.

To do have great tailgating...  with the school helping in that regard to up the overall game.

To make the atmosphere in the stadium great.

It's understood that there are plenty of entertainment options in Baltimore / DC... plenty of competition.... and the MD football program has to build, and build interest....   but still, it's a failure on the MD Athletic Department, etc...   with better planning, it really wouldn't be that hard.

Hills did his job.  He made quick decisions.  He hit Moore.

I think they intentionally limited Hills keepers. They didn't want him running and taking hits.

They didn't win because of Hills though. They won because they committed to running...  and MSU was already thin at LB, prior to the DQ. They were able to run effectively, and that changed everything.

Unlike vs. Minnesota where Lorenzo got 3 carries, they gave him and Ty the ball consistently.

Hills didn't turn the ball over, and he's experienced enough to make quick decisions, and get rid of the ball quickly.   But when 15-17 of his 20 completions are all within 5 yards of the LOS,  it's just too much to me when you say MD couldn't have won last night with Pigrome starting.

Hills was not progressing through reads last night. There is no progression imo. He's not looking at 3 receivers, and checking down. He's coming to the line with preassigned decisions, and more often than not locking down on receivers...  it's snap, immediate throw / screen.

Where he gets credit there is not turning it over, and quickly getting the ball into the hands of playmaker.  Those are improvements he's made as a player from last year, to this year... the work he did on his own, and the installation of this offense.  Credit to him, credit to Bell.

Don't expect to win at Nebraska... but given how they played yesterday vs. Purdue, it shouldn't be an automatic loss either.
Can't expect to win (and wouldn't necessarily expect to compete) vs. Ohio State and Michigan...    but if they can run the ball, Hills avoids turnrovers...  keeps things moving...   and you have a great Special Teams night...   they have a chance to avoid being embarrassed.

MD needs to beat Indiana. You have to build off this Michigan State game, and get the road W.
Rutgers fell to 2-6 overall yesterday, but were in their game vs. Minnesota. Definitely another game MD has to win.  If they (MD) get smacked around by Michigan / OSU / Nebraska...  their confidence might be low when they face Rutgers.   If they can be competitive in the Michigan / OSU / Nebraska games...  I would think they would handle Rutgers at home.

This was certainly one of the games that most, if not everyone had as a loss before the season started. To become bowl eligible the Terps were going to need to find a way to win a game many thought they'd lose headed in to the season. So now a bowl is very much within reach, to the point where I'd be pretty disappointed if they didn't make it. Hopefully they can lock it up at Indiana and not have to have it all on the line in the finale against Rutgers, coming off of what would certainly be 4 straight losses (and three of them probably ugly losses).
