I mean, the best option from a geographical standpoint is probably the next narrowish point in the Bay, down by Calvert Cliffs. Then you can cut over northeast to 50 at Cambridge, or west to Vienna or even Salisbury. But that would involve a longer bridge and new roads and a hell of a lot of money with a hell of a lot of opposition.
Yeah Calvert is fighting it with everything they have, they don't want to become a thru-way. I get that, but I also get that going to the Eastern Shore, OC, or even VA Beach or OBX could be shortened by hours with a bridge down there. If you HAVE to dump money into another way across the bridge, then I'd rather see something different, not more of the same. But those towns that would get cut out of the tourism loop (Easton, Cambridge etc) wouldn't be happy. Calvert wouldn't be happy with the increased traffic to get there.
I think Larry needs to get over his obsession with OC. He seems to think tourism there is going to save the state's finances. It's not. Crime is up. Overcrowding there sucks. It's much less of a family destination now.
Put that money towards making the existing every day traffic better. Another route to avoid the beltway, or something to thin out beltway traffic. If you look real hard at an old map you can see how they had plans originally for another beltway loop around the existing one. THAT would have been a gamechanger for central MD.
