I started reading the OH in 2005 when I was 15 and began posting a few years later. Started out as Grt 2BA FL Gator (during my college years), then more recently Bubble Buddy (an ode to Adam Jones and my favorite childhood show Spongebob).

I wrestle with the idea of leaving the OH. In a way, even the drama that would occur was interesting and not personal for me because I didn't have any run-ins. There were some epic exits over the years that were highly entertaining! I always thought the occasional seasons of amnesty were humorous as well.

I certainly will miss the ritual of checking the site and it has done a lot of things well. I've learned so much from OH posters over the years, but I personally don't want to support Tony's business if he is going to be combative toward those that believe racial injustice still exists. I wish he would have quietly sold it to someone else if he felt like he could no longer do the job because of his beliefs.

Anyways, on the baseball side, I love a good rebuild and I like what Elias is doing. Before the season I thought the playoffs weren't realistic until at least 2023. I got my hopes up with the decent start and thought we could possibly sneak into the expanded playoffs, so the recent losses have hurt more than I expected. But I like the trades yesterday and look forward to seeing what this first crop of young guys could bring to the table.

Go O's and look forward to reading and posting!

I want to say during one of the dust ups, and I don't think it was the one where I left, I think it was either one before me, or the one where he was going to shut it down because it wasn't making enough money, someone asked him if he'd sell it or give it to someone else to run, and if I recall he said something like no, because it was HIS baby, HIS show and if he was gone, so was it. Paraphrasing.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was something along those lines. I honestly don't really fault him for it either. It was a lot of work getting that place up and going. Just gotta remember that the TRUE power to places like that are the people behind it. Without the number and quality of posters there, it wouldn't have gotten to the point it did, and even if a place goes away, those posters are still out there and could always go someplace else. It just takes a LOT of hard work to get a place going. A guy named Jordan started his own, Orioles Nation I believe that had a short run. JTrea started his own place for a bit. Camden Chat added a board to their place. I feel like Camden Depot could have picked up quite a bit of steam had it opened it's own board, it had a really good sized reader base.

Tony makes decent revenue off of OH.
Good for him, he should.
I've now offered to him twice to name a price if he'd like to sell...  I imagine some days that's attractive, and some days its not.

Camden Chat of course is part of SB Nation.
They have a large community....  but frankly, I don't get why.
(That isn't a knock at the community they've developed...  it is me questioning why people support SB Nation as much as they do.)

Camden Depot had active comments to their articles, and decent volume as part of ESPN's Sweetspot when it was a thing...
Jon certainly had no interest in running a board.

Curious, is this a knock on SB Nation or a question of pure curiosity? Because I love SB Nation for its pure quirkiness (Jon Bois is one of my all-time favorite follows, and I've already told you about how much I love 17776), and I know several others that do, too.

I totally get this and honestly Tony does a damn good job running the site for the most part. I remember when I first heard of it, it was a Detroit Tigers fan that knew about it and had said it was one of the best in baseball. Tony deserves credit for that.

Just don't have interest in actively supporting it unless some things change. And that doesn't seem likely. And he certainly has every right to do what he wants with it. Just glad there may be alternatives.

SB Nation generates a lot of revenue and is notoriously cheap to their contributors.
If I'm a reader, I might not care about that.  If I'm a contributor to Camden Chat, Testudo Times, Baltimore Beatdown...   I might ask for more.

People can go wherever they want to find content... but it'd be cool if the readers of those sites were coming here and supporting us (and our Baltimore business partners) instead.

I've been an off and on member of this forum for a while, but I haven't been around much so I figure I should introduce myself to those who are new and reintroduce myself to those who are old.

I'm Dave, I live in Baltimore. Huge Orioles and Ravens fan. Casual NBA fan. Mostly root for the Bucks because I think they're a fantastic organization from top to bottom, but I honestly don't really have a favorite team yet.

My favorite sport is hockey. I live, eat, and breathe it. I probably watch too much of it. It's my goal to make more people care about hockey. I'm a Capitals fan, but I also root for the Flames (my mom's side of the family is from Calgary).

Welcome (back) Dave

Had that happen to me at a JMU football game last year. It was weird only because the guy followed me on Twitter a long time ago but we have never interacted. Our first interaction was him hugging me.

Hi everyone --

I used to post/lurk on the OH board as Matt. I was on there from pretty much the earliest days, reading almost daily, but posting only occasionally. So, if you posted there, great chance I remember you, but you may not remember me. Anyway, I'm glad to be here discussing the O's on a forum I don't feel mortified with, ethically!

Seth: 40, Eldersburg..

"Beaner" on OH, die hard Orioles & Tar Heels fan.

Married, 2 kids. Looking forward to helping make this a great board.

I'm 52 now, took a few years off from here, but missed the place so I'm back.

Still married, 2 kids are now both in college, and still living in Eldersburg.

Still a Die Hard Orioles and Tar Heel fan, but fandom of other sports and teams has really waned over the years, sadly.
