Damn. That sucks. Probably needs to happen but still. Damn.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Owner of Portalli's apparently learned of the plan as it was being announced.

Insane.

That guy has been put through the ringer.

Sorry Brian

Will definitely suck to see the Phoenix go, but, honestly I don't go down there nearly as much as I used to.  Getting older and most of the old bartenders that used to hook me up are long gone.

Wow, according to this, it's actually 19 buildings.

It’s really an awful situation. Poorly handled in every way.

But he shouldn’t be trying to rebuild either. It’s what is best for him in the long run, even if it’s tough to admit and talk about it right now.

The wife and I went to Phoenix on Friday night for dinner, which happened to be the first night the lower level was open again.   It was definitely kind of weird being over there in EC though,  Phoenix was the only place open on the lower half a main street.   Most of the rest were still boarded up, although a few others looked close to reopening. As far as Phoenix goes, the beer selection was still great as was the food.  You can't beat 10 bucks for a Reuben that includes inches of cornedbeef packed in there.

It's official.  Four buildings, including the Phoenix, are coming down.

Bittersweet day but it had to happen.

Should take about five years to complete.

It sucks that the city will be torn up for that long for but for the long term wellbeing of the town, it needed to happen.

I was in EC last night and walked from the top of the hill to the train bridge to see what the lower section of town looked like and I was surprised to see how much was open south of Columbia Pike. Even Phoenix was open. Sure there was a lot of buildings boarded up and dark but it was still nice to see so much of the town return to something resembling normal so fast.

Phoenix just posted an update to their FB Page .  They sold their lease to Howard County and their last day is going to be March 31st.  Apparently the guy that owns it though just bought Ellicott Mills and will be running that place going forward so gone, but not completely.

Hopefully it's a win/win. EMBC could be so much better.

Yeah, it does. Still I suppose this is better than nothing.

Sad. I was only there a handful of times but it was a great bar. Hope I can make it there one last time before closing.

Really enjoyed that. A needed reminder that good does exist, and an example of people collectively coming together to get past adversity.

When we get through this pandemic, maybe we can have a bar crawl through Main Street.
