He pitched himself off the team.   Lack of command.  It seems Akin has at least two, 25-30 pitch innings every start.  Nothing good comes from high pitch count innings.

Interesting.

They need length, but can not option a position player because DJ is DTD

Sure would be nice to see him finish the year on a positive note.

8?26 vs. LAA: 7ip, 3 hits, 1 er, 1 hr, 2 bb's, 6 k's

Me too but it wouldn't garner much faith in him moving forward. Not like he'd deserve a spot in the rotation to open 2022.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The 6.54 career ERA is ugly, but he still has only 96.1 innings in the majors.

Tillman had a 6.04 ERA in his first 95.1 innings in the majors. I know he was younger and a better prospect, but sometimes guys figure it out.

We expect big things from Grayson and Hall but it would really help for some of these lesser prospects to become major league pitchers too.

You are 100% right.  If some of these lesser prospects do not come through, we are always going to have a challenged pitching staff.

2 decent starts in a row for Akin.   If he keeps it up for the month of September does that change anyone's expectations for him in regards to next year?

No, but a good month gives him the inside track for a rotation spot in the spring (which isn't a given, he could still pitch his way out of it like he did this year).

You could almost call it three decent starts in a row and if you're comparing to Orioles starters results all year (and Akin himself), I'd almost call it four, lol.

I think it's certainly changed my feelings on him at the moment, especially if he finishes well in the month of September. Doesn't mean I want to hand him a rotation spot next year, but it would make me encouraged on his ability to find a way to pitch in the big leagues, whether that's as a 5th starter type or out of the bullpen.

I haven't been able to watch too much but saw the beginning of yesterday's game. His results and comments make it feel like he's figured something out at the moment.

He is going to have some kind of surgery.  I don’t think it is the arm.

Core muscle surgery, doesn’t sound fun.

Surgery never is.  Evidently he has been pitching through the injury, but Hyde did say, he would be ready for ST.

At least he put a couple good appearances in later on this season.  Overall mostly a lost year but not completely without hope like Kremer's year.  Get healthy and compete for a spot in the Spring.

He'll be 27 next year, so he's far from young.

Right now, if we have any intention, not to lose 100 games again, next year, Akin should not be counted on to man a starting spot.  Now if we plan on flushing yet another season, by hiding under the "rebuild" label once again, then he might get a spot in the rotation.
