I'm glad that he's continued to battle, and earned his way up. The AA numbers, hit per IP, a bit more than a K per IP are encouraging a bit. The 10 homers allowed not so much.

Know when he was drafted, he was compared to Erickson as someone that could possibly eat innings, and get a lot of grounders with the 2 seamer.

Where is his velocity currently? Is it sustained?

He's started 13 games this year (18 appearances).
I'd imagine his future is as a reliever right? If everything plays up and he can be a groundball machine, I'd be excited there.
Another J.Johnson would be awesome.

Essentially 18 starts as the other five were bulk outings piggybacking another starter. I could be wrong but I think he’s moved to a 4 seam fastball ~93-94. Showed a really nice change-up last night.

But yeah I think he is ultimately a reliever.

At this point, if Sedlock becomes a useful reliever, it is a bonus for the Orioles.

why I point out college pitcher overuse: Sedlock threw 132 pitches in a 10.2 inning start for Illinois in his draft year, followed by pitch counts of 113, 106, 115, 120 (on short rest). He has never thrown 100 innings in any pro season due to multiple arm injuries

Causation and correlation. What’s his excuse for Grayson going down despite being babied to the nth degree since we drafted him?

Sedlock DFA is a little surprise, but I guess they could not say no to Austin Voth.  The plus 10 ERA and the 2.14 WHIP was probably too impressive to pass on.

Not that the DFA on Sedlock is a big deal.

DFA doesn't mean released, he'll clear waivers and be back in Norfolk.

To be clear, I don't care that much about Sedlock and I realize Elias or any GM is going to keep his guys, but the guy they claimed, and his numbers are not good.

Despite those numbers I still rather see Voth pitch than Harvey

A part of me wonders if he won't be claimed. Here's why, he's a 1st round draft pick (even if it was the back end of the 1st round. And he was groomed by the famously inept Baltimore Orioles pitching program.

Then again, Elias and his people have now been here for a few years. So he probably should have shown some improvement.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I think he was Rule 5 eligible in 2021 and nobody took him (and would've been eligible this year but there was no draft). He's been better recently so maybe he intrigues somebody, but I am expecting him to clear.

He's got options, so a team could claim him and option him. Still, I think he remains.

Traded to Detroit for cash considerations. At least the Angelos’s are a little wealthier today.

Now they can use that money to draft Jones!

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

But yea. Sedlock will go down as (another) swing and a miss.

Certainly a miss.  But so many of them are for everyone, not just the Orioles.  Fewer than 60% of guys taken in the late 20s (26-30) ever reach the majors.  Only about 1/4 accrue more than 1 (one!) career WAR.  And that's pretty consistent across a variety of time periods with no significant signs of getting better even if it makes sense that it should improve (not yet possible to quantify the most recent drafts in this way).

Most good players were relatively high draft picks.  But most relatively high draft picks do not become good players.  Its a tantalizing conundrum.
