Lighten up, Francis.

He's a SP on a bad team. Might be a decent #5 on a good one. Still better than a lot of the drek we threw out there when we were competitive.

I liked what I saw last night. The K's were impressive.

Guys with mediocre minor league careers, at normal ages for the leagues they were in, don’t normally go on to be good ML starters.

Of course, maybe the Orioles were screwing him up before..always possible.

Still doubt he is ever anything more than a good reliever.

I mean I know this team is a mess, but how is Hess still in the rotation?

My thoughts from the 6/1 Game Thread...

Just use Hess as he should be used. Not as a regular ML starter, but as a 2-3 inning reliever. Maybe the occasional spot start.

The velocity is good (fb can be bit too straight). Slider is nice. Everything will play up in shorter stints.

Has to work on FB control. Should be working on his 2 seam and getting more grounders.

I definitely think he can help a ML bullpen. Do think this year has gotten away from him as he's been exposed as a regular starter.

I don't see why we get so down on guys who get exposed in roles they don't belong in vs. attempting to utilize them in the roles they are built for.

It's not that he's some great, unique guy. He's certainly replaceable.
It's that he does have some ability... does cost nothing, is under control... and that if you use him as he should be used, he could be a contributor.

If you change how you use him, and he still doesn't perform.... then you dfa him.

The Orioles have given him a lot of starting opportunities due to need here; but they've ultimately failed to do what was right for the player and team overall.

Been exposed as a ML starter. Still some value in the arm.

Well he did so well in his move to the bullpen today that they are now trying another move with him.  Back to Norfolk.

On the Opening Day 30 man.

Should be a piggy-back type reliever.
Another opportunity here.

Well, it's not Tommy John.

The Orioles have some serious 40-man churning to do to protect enough prospects from the Rule 5 draft. It's begun with reportedly parting ways with RHP David Hess, who pitched in 47 games since 2018.

Hess cleared waivers, according to a MASN report, and is now a free agent.

Scary, hope everything turns out ok.

Still think Hyde should've let him continue trying for that no-hitter!

Him and Mancini getting cancer, they are so fit and young.  I guess Cancer can strike anyone.  I hope that he will recover like Mancini.  Best wishes Hess, get better soon!
