Thank God. I'm going Saturday and I'd rather not have the game be over by the 2nd inning.
It probably still will be. Gallardo hasn't exactly lit up the minors in his rehab starts.

Yeah, even in his most recent "good" rehab start, he still threw 90 pitches in 5 innings.

I mean he stinks but you can make the case that Ubaldo is the worst pitcher in baseball right now.

James Shields?
Whoever the mop up guy on Atlanta is?

His 6.89 is the highest ERA of any qualified SP. Only two other qualified SP are over 6.00 (Wily Peralta and Clay Bucholz). Six more over 5.50 and eight additional over 5.00.
There are four guys with over 40 IP that have a higher ERA than Ubaldo:
Alfredo Simon 9.11 ERA in 52.1 IP
Aaron Blair 7.59 ERA in 40.1 IP
Cody Anderson 7.48 in 43.1 IP
Shelby Miller 7.09 in 45.2 IP
There is a very compelling case to be made for Ubaldo as the worst pitcher in MLB so far this season, but I think I'd give the nod to Alfred Simon.

Much better.
He did what we needed him to do...

How'd he look? I was at the river all day.

He had very passable stuff and pretty decent command today even though he did issue too many walks. Kinda what I expected when we got him. He can help the team with what he had today. Hit 92 a couple times.

Looking a lot better. Holds his own at the plate too.
That should help us out in the WS.

Velocity is noticeably up from before the DL, at least gives him a chance to be a passable SP. There was no hope of even marginal success if he had remained down around 87-88 MPH on the fastball.

It gives Tillman an extra day, plus I think Buck is trying to build confidence in Gallardo.
I am not a big gallardo fan, as he reminds me of Steve Trachsel the way he pitches, but they need him and Gausman to come through.
Tillman and pray for a blizzard is not going to work.
Gallardo changed who he is a while ago... and was pretty successful at it... not sure what was wrong with him earlier on, but lately he looks like the guy I expected to see all along... now, it's a matter of him doing it for 6 or 7 instead of just 4 or 5....

Curious what period you are talking about when you say "lately".
Since his return from the DL he's got a 4.97 ERA in 25.1 IP over 5 starts. 27 hits, 5 HR, 16 BB, 21 K, 863 OPS-against. Small sample size, sure, but I think you have to be squinting pretty hard to see many positives in there. I think his velocity has been more like what we expected than when it was way down to begin the year, which is certainly a good sign, but even that improved velocity hasn't led to particularly good results. I don't think he's doomed to failure like he would have been had the velocity not ticked up, but I can't say I'm overly optimistic.
