In the Game thread, Ricker Says pointed out:
"Entering tonight, since June 20th and over his last 7 appearances, Luis Ayala has pitched 9 innings to the tune of a 5.00 ERA and given up 2 home runs. Rough stretch. That's 10 innings/6 ER's after tonight."

Makes sense I guess. To replace him would likely have cost more.Orioles To Exercise 2013 Option For Luis Ayala

That's a gimme. For that price you have to exercise it. You can still release him if you have to.

For a guy that many of us were upset Duke was signing, he turned out to be really good last year and would be as good of an option as is be available for $1M or less in free agency. Hopefully he can have another good season, though ideally he'll only be our 4th or 5th best arm out of the pen.

The Orioles are nearing a deal with reliever Luis Ayala, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman tweets. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal mentioned last night (also on Twitter) that Ayala had offers from the Orioles and another team, and that he could make a decision today.

Nothing wrong with signing Luis Ayala to a minor league contract. The Orioles know him, and Dave Wallace and Dom Chiti got a good look at him in Atlanta last year...Go O's!!!

I liked Ayala when he pitched for us previously. He was solid. Not the MOST RELIABLE, but I was never fearful when we brought him in like I am a Patton or Hunter (at times)...I really think we should give Stevie Johnson a real shot of making the club as a long man though...

Done deal according to Heyman. Can't figure out how to copy the tweet from my phone.
