Any word on why Logan has left?
Not yet. If it's something to do with family reasons, that could make sense since he's not a local kid. It could be as simple as the new coaching staff not gelling with him.

The Terps have had three players named to pre-season award watch lists in the last few weeks.
OL Brendan Moore - Rimington Trophy (Nation's Best Center)
LB Jermaine Carter, Jr. - Butkus Award (Nation's Best Linebacker)
DB William Likely - Jim Thorpe Award (Nation's Best Defensive Back); Nagurski Trophy (Nation's Best Defensive Player); Bednarik Award (Nation's Best Defensive Player)

Sounds like Nick Saban jerking around Kirby Smart more than anything. Georgia is also high on Smith's list.

Testudo Times: Maryland football opens as 48.5-point favorite for season opener vs. Howard
http://www.testudoti...ine-odds-week-1
In a typical year, this game would be annoying. Howard is god-awful even within the confines of the FCS. But I actually like facing them this year. Not only should the Terps put up a 60-spot on them, but they ought to be able to allow backups to play the entire second half. For a team with so many questions surrounding so many positions, this is a great opportunity for Durkin and his staff to evaluate a huge portion of the roster in a game situation.

I'm glad the Big Ten is eliminating these FCS games. Other than to help fund the budget of the FCS athletic programs (granted, that's no small exception) these games are mostly worthless to watch despite the fact that a handful of them do end up being competitive. I'd rather see that money go to some of the lower level FBS schools, many of whom desperately need it if they are going to keep playing football at this level.
While I agree with Zack that it's nice to be able to clear your bench early to open the season, I'm not sure how much you can really evaluate anything, starters or depth, when you are going against such an inferior opponent.

InsideMDSports: Jackson arriving at Maryland this week
http://maryland.247s...s-week-46406272
HUGE NEWS. Terps just added Jackson, who will likely start across from William Likely at cornerback.

The cornerback position now has some good depth. With Jackson's addition, here's my updated 3-deep at the position:
Field Corner - 1. J.C. Jackson, 2. Alvin Hill, 3. Antwaine Carter
Boundary Corner - 1. William Likely, 2. Darnell Savage, Jr., 3. J.T. Ventura
The #4-#6 spots could have some fluctuation, but the first 3 spots are essentially set in stone. This is a good-looking group, with plenty of freshmen (like Elisha Daniels, Antwaine Richardson, and Qwuantrezz Knight) who Durkin and Buh could use in passing situations or redshirt to gain experience.
EDIT: Even better, Jackson has 3 years of eligibility remaining. He'll be a mainstay at the CB position for the next few years.

Nice get from DJ. Always nice to add a quality athlete to play on the corner.
DJ has gotten off to a very good start.

If they do, I just hope they don't have the trophy be some stupid thing like The Old Smelly Shoe....

Durkin brings the complete opposite excitement level that Edsall brought entering CP. I have no doubt the program is in much better hands. Now let's see how that translates on the field.

Agree completely. I expect this year to be a big struggle, but I think the state of the program is in much better shape with someone who is competent and, most importantly, not an unrelentingly condescending asshole.

The article indicated Durkin seemed dismissive of the trophy idea. Good....that indicates to me that he gets it.

It would probably be a miniature replica of some dingy, seedy I-95/Jersey Turnpike rest stop, complete with overflowing toilets.

Testudo Times: Maryland football and Rutgers are reportedly talking about making a rivalry trophy
Blech. The B1G is forcing this "rivalry", but Penn State needs to be our rival. 2 years, 2 great games, 1 win for each school.
Posted 26 July 2016 - 08:34 PM
Don't need forced rivalries or trophies. Rivals grow organically.
Be the outcast, build, and all of a sudden there will be numerous 'rivals.'
Getting more optimistic as the season nears. There is some talent here. If the Coaching staff better utilizes the existing talent, and has some scheme advantage.... they can surprise. I'm certainly not talking about contending in the division, but there are a lot of games where they should be able to compete.
Of course there are a lot of games where they can lose as well, and at-least 3 games where they figure to lose no matter what.
