Joshua Paschal out of Good Counsel is a kid I really like. He comes from a great football school and he's almost there physically. Also, at this point he's pretty raw and dominating elite competition. I'd like to see what he can do with some polish on his pass rush moves.

I take a look at Maryland's first 2017 commit and look at a few targets from the state of Florida.

Kasim Hill was in College Park to watch the Terps scrimmage the other day, and sounds like he's close to making a decision. Maryland is considered to be the big leader for him.

The top in-state quarterback will not be easy for Maryland keep home. The four-star Hill has a college-ready body and the athleticism and arm to be an impact player at the top level. Among schools that have offered Hill are Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State, so in order to keep him home the Terps will have to prove it can out-recruit a few of the Big 10’s top programs. He has recently transferred from Gilman to St. John’s in D.C.

 

Sounds like a great target.  Hope we can land him and then hold onto him.

That'd be DJD's first real home run it seems. Hope it happens. Long way to go to Signing Day though. Hate to get any hopes up this early in the process, though having certain continuity heading into next off season should help a bit.

6'1" 180 CB out of Quince Orchard HS in MoCo (same HS as Adam McLean). Unranked as of yet, probably a 3-star. Had offers from Iowa State, Marshall, Monmouth, Old Dominion, and Temple.

Two big 4-star recruits will be committing within hours of each other this weekend. Both are expected to choose Maryland.

 

4-star DT Cam Spence (IMG Academy) is committing at 8:00 AM ET on Friday.

 

4-star QB Kasim Hill (Gilman) is committing at 2:00 PM ET on Saturday.

As we all know by now it means pretty much nothing at this point.

Seriously.  I'd love to know what percentage of commits a year before signing day actually end up signing a LOI with that school.

Having a competent coach and that continuity should help retain these early commits, especially given DJD's recruiting ability. That said, yes, always good to manage expectations with this stuff.

Four-star class of 2017 defensive tackle Cam Spence out of IMG Academy (Fla.) verbally committed on Friday Morning to play his college football at the University of Maryland. Spence is Maryland’s third commit in the class of 2017, joining tight end Andrew Park and cornerback Fofie Bazzie, who committed on Sunday.

Hill is listed as a pro-style quarterback, but has more than enough mobility to run Bell's system. Runs about a 4.7 40, but probably a bit faster than that.
