I vote for Coma as best GnR song. I hope they're still playing it when I see them in Nashville.

Watching a little bit on periscope from tonight, that's some big ole TVs around that stage.

Coma and Estranged are my two favorites.

I watched the whole show last night on periscope. The band and Axl seemed to be on fire, even with the mediocre cell phone quality I was watching on. Early reviews have been positive.

And they came on 2 minutes ahead of their 9:45 scheduled time.

25 years ago Axl would've cancelled the whole tour because of his foot.

He's come a long way, particularly over the last couple of years. Being on time to shows, making nice with all of the original members, being friendly with the media, doing a few interviews.. he's working his way out of being considered one of the biggest dbags in rock and roll.

He just needs to release some music now, because there's still the giant issue of the fact that he's released one album in the last 23 years. Hopefully Slash and Duff's return will facilitate that.

Are Slash and Duff official members of the band now or is this tour a one-off?

All indications are that they are official members.

I think new music is still very iffy, though. The good thing is, there's no real reason now for Slash or Duff to ever leave. If Axl is being difficult and doesn't want to tour or release music, they both have their own bands they can and will tour and record with. Slash specifically has said he still plans to release a new album with Myles Kennedy. It would be nice if they could all write and record together now, though, because Axl's voice is probably the best it's been since the early 90's.

Axl is a perfectionist, which is why Chinese Democracy took 15 years. It's been 8 years since that was released. Many of the former members during that period have alluded to how much written material there is, Axl has just always found reasons to not release it. The return of Slash makes the band more relevant than they've been at any point in the last 20 years, so they'd be smart to strike while the iron is hot. Although, you could make a case that a massive stadium tour paying them millions of dollars is already striking :)

Axl needs a person with him whom he respects who can pick out the good stuff from his pile and say, "hey, let's do this." Left to his own, Axl will second guess everything, always wanting every record to be equal to Queen's "A Night at the Opera." Slash and Duff possibly could bring that gravitas to the table. And if all we're talking about is writing new music, I wouldn't be surprised to see Izzy down for that.

I think it's very likely that he records with AC/DC. Angus is a person who doesn't fool around long with new music, and if Angus says something's good enough, who is to argue.

Looking so forward to seeing GnR in 19 days.

Fuck yeah he is.

On another note, over the past couple months I put gnr back in the rotation for the first time in probably a decade. Still knew all the words.

I never really gave them a shot outside of their hits. Guess I should. My roommate had an amazing time at FedEx last night apparently. Would of loved to have seen Alice in Chains personally.

In a truly awesome moment, original drummer Steven Adler joined the band tonight for 2 songs, 'Out ta Get Me' and 'My Michelle'.

Dude has been waiting 26 years for that moment. Most of those 26 years spent heavily abusing drugs and alcohol. Minor miracle it ever happened, but very cool. 4 of the originals on stage at one time.

I hope Adler makes it to Nashville tomorrow. And Izzy!

Regardless, I can't wait.

Words cannot describe how great GnR was. Unbelievable that Axl still has that much left in the tank. Slash is ... Slash.

As an added treat, the Nashville show was the second one where Steven Adler came out to play Out Ta Get Me and My Michelle. It's so cool that he still smiles the whole time he drums with those guys, even though there has to be some ill feelings they've had to get around.

If I had the money, I'd go to Atlanta in two weeks and catch them again.

I like digging up old threads. Especially music threads.

I saw GNR twice since this thread ended: First in August 2017 during the "Not in This Lifetime Tour" and then this past Saturday. Both shows were at Hershey stadium. 2017 was better; all the hits plus better covers and a Slash solo that included the Godfather love theme. They were still great this last time but didn't play Patience or Don't Cry which pissed off some friends who saw them for the first time. Slash is the real attraction -- he's amazing -- but Axl surprisingly sounds good for a dude pushing 60.

They play in Baltimore next month. If you have even a hint of curiosity about seeing them live, do it. They're legit.

November Rain is one of, if not, the best rock ballad ever. Better than Bohemian Rhapsody. Come at me, Outback boy.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

It's an outtake from Chinese Democracy.

November Rain is the definition of arena rock gone full-bloat. Amazing that a band who could pen Patience would write that dreck.  :-P

Gimme Fourteen Years or Pretty Tied Up every day of the week.

As for Appetite? That was a great LP. Reminded me of Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak.

I saw GnR at Joe Robbie Stadium down in Miami for New Years Eve back in '91-'92. Unfortunately for them, the opening act, Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger tour) blew the doors off the place. Sorta reminded me of how badly Def Leppard got upstaged by Tesla (Mechanical Resonance) a few years earlier at the Hollywood Sportatorium.

ETA: I really liked Appetite for Destruction. That was the disc to have, senior year in high school, no question.
