I don't think Layman is going to make a leap here... so it's making the best of his strengths, and having his weaknesses minimized.

He at times can get hot outside... he can help on the boards... he can help as a help defender...  If he goes to the rim, and gets to the line... and tries to play defense... I'll be relatively happy.  Can't have games where you get nothing from him though.  I did like he was attempting to drive tonight.

The question to me will be if MD uses smaller lineups in late game situations, with him going to the 4th, and Carter to the 5.

I think if you want another real scorer to emerge, it's Sulaimon and Nickens... Nickens having just 3 shots shouldn't happen imo... but he has to bring defensive effort each game...

Carter should be our #2 scoring option. Sulimon is a good 3rd option. Honestly, jake just needs to do the little things, but he really doesn't do a lot of the little things that well. Solid rebounder but that's neutralized by his poor on ball defense. Offensively, he just has to knock down open looks.

Not going to worry about Jake.....this was a good win on a big stage (MSG).  Maryland beats a good UConn team by 10 on basically UConn's home court.

Melo again was terrific.  Carter, real good...and Stone while struggling a little in the second half is starting to come on.

Enjoy it guys, this is a good Terp team.

Can we trade Layman for whomever would be the 2015 version of Byron Mouton? Or, just actual Byron Mouton in 2015; he's only 37.

Some MD fans are lamenting Jake staying which essentially was the reason why we didnt get Damion Lee. That's harsh, but Lee is the better player and better fit for this team.

Not sure why people are skeptical. UCONN is a legit team. MD raped them. This team is really good. They play well as a team, and have multiple individual players that can take over games. They can score/win in different ways.

Sit back and enjoy it. This is what we've wanted for a long time in College Park.

Sucked to see them give up such a huge lead, and then need a pretty terrible foul and reaction from their coach to get a decent lead. At that point the momentum was on their side.

Good win, but it could have been a great win.

Still, happy to see Stone have a big game, and Melo being Melo, and more. It was a very encouraging win.

Can't wait for conference play to start.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I overreacted a bit last night. I'll blame this cold I have. This was a good win and you can't expect the team to win by 20 against good teams in hostile environments. Feeling really good about this team heading into league play here soon. The chemistry between Melo and Stone seems great and will only improve.

What? They beat a Top 25 team on a not so neutral court in the non-conference season. It's a great win.

Layman doesn't need to do much more than play good D and distribute well/grab boards. He's streaky... he'll get going. Also the pressure he's putting on himself to try and improve his NBA stock has to be a factor. I think he'll settle in but I really don't agree that he's gotta be a huge factor for this team to win the title. It'd be easier... but I don't see it as a must. Brantley's inability to effectively relieve Melo is by far the bigger issue. What a bust he's been so far. Still relatively early, but I just don't see it.

Layman reminds me of a 5 tool baseball player who all the prognosticators expect to break out but that ends up doing too much and hurts himself. Jake needs to just play his game and play winning basketball. Luckily, we don't need him to be the #1 or #2 threat on the team. Just be himself and as Mackus said a couple months ago, there's going to be a game or two this year that we win solely because of him. Just needs to play his game and not worry about scoring 20 a game.

Agree 100%.  I watched last nights game and came away thrilled with how the Terps performed.  Basketball against a good team, in their home environment is a matter of survival.  The Terps did better than that last night.  They handled a good club in front of a energetic fan base.  Stop nitpicking everything.

Jake is who Jake is.   He is clearly struggling with his shot and is not a player who forces everything until they start to fall.  He is a weapon at the top part of the 1-3-1 that Turgeon is playing more and more.  he will struggle against the quick small forwards who are intent to get to the basket.  The matchup last night with the UConn slashers was not good for Jake.

Move on, enjoy the win, but I expect Jake to play a key role in some of the Md wins, when they get into conference.

it was a great win on a good teams home court.  That was a UConn Crowd last night.  Basketball is a game of runs.  As for the foul....they were riding Trimble hard on the inbound play all night.  The guy extended his arms around Trimble and that is what the ref called.

They owed Md one, because the charge on Trimble on the possession before was awful..  This will prove to be a quality resume win.

Really liked the way Carter took over the boards at the end of the game.  He seemed to get every big rebound.
