I guess we'll just have to find a new player to lead the majors in HR's next year. Maybe Davis can do it again.

Shouldn't be hard to improve on Trumbo's .316 OBP though.

Maybe, Trumbo did a lot of damage in big situations.  THe .318 ONP not withstanding.  My eyes tell me. he had a really good year at the plate

He definitely did. I hope the market is down on him and we can somehow keep him for 3 years.

Interesting, how people don't feel this is a huge loss.  47 bombs, pretty easy to replace, I guess.

The HRs are tough to replace.  But the other 600 PAs shouldn't be too hard.

Also, he's had a career OPS of 776 and a HR every 19.25 PA.  He had a 923 OPS with a HR every 13.05 PA in the first half of 2016, then 752 OPS and a HR ever 15.4 PA in the second half.

Does he really feel like someone we're gonna be happy to have for the next 4-5 years for $15-18M per season?  I'd much rather have Dexter Fowler for probably less money.

He certainly did.

But we don't need to give him extra money because of what he did last year.  Should only pay him based on what we think he'll do moving forward.  If you think he'll repeat his numbers from this year moving forward, then he's worth the type of contract he'll get.  If he falls back towards who he's always been other than this season, then he's likely not worth half of what he'll get.

I think most of us are ready to adopt something new. Sprinkle in OBP guys with the boppers they already have.

Hell, OBP could be tough to come by. I'll just take contact hitters. Low K%. At least if you put the ball in play something can happen. Move a runner up, sac fly, reach on error. Of course the occosiaonal double play. But you get absolutely nothing from striking out.

I know a lot of people are probably against him being back at the cost/years but gosh darn if i don't love that my favorite Quake is gonna be back with my favorite team for the foreseeable future.

Ain't my money so I'm gonna enjoy it.

Whether this turns out to be a good move or not depends on whether last year was real vs a 1-year, walk-year fluke...  which in turn comes down to whether what he said about learning something about his swing midway thru 2015 is legit...

I think it is legit, so I think this is good... but regardless of what anybody thinks, only one way to find out..

The contract is fine. Since he's going to be here, I'm going to enjoy the skill he does have vs fixate on the limitations.

Does Trumbo’s return put O’s atop AL East DH rankings?

Last night's dinger was the highest pitch ever hit for a homer that we know of...

* 4.62 feet off the ground

* 4.56 was the previous highest; Hunter Pence, 2014

* That makes Trumbo's the highest by .06" = ~1/16"

* Data kept since 2008

If some team wanted Trumbo and you could save 75% of the money but for very little in return, would you make the deal?

I'd have to think a bit on that one. I could see either way but I think I'd lean to yes. But like I said in another thread I believe we could package Trubmo/Brach/Kim/Casitllo in some fashion and get a legit #3 starter.

I'd do it if it's part of a major rebuild where we trade away all assets that won't be around long.  If we simply are trading off pending FAs like Smith and Castillo, and are gonna try it again in 2018 one last time, then I'd hold onto him.

Maybe worse than the Gallardo signing. He is horrible. Better chance of winning without him right now.

Agree completely.  Even in his 47HR season he still only put up a 1.6 WAR.

It was a poor contract but I'll still take 2 more years and 30 mil over the 5/115 owed to Davis

Not to get this off topic but this GM has the 4 worst FA signings ever for this franchise on his resume. Idiot
