We can use this for any road-related topics, but I'm posting this today so we can make fun of people from Philly:

And we think WE have an inferiority complex.

Tell ya what, if Philly pays for a new arena for Baltimore, we'll change all the I-95N signs to say "Philadelphia" instead of "New York." Build us a new rail line and we'll add little caricatures of Ben Franklin, the Liberty Bell and cheesesteaks. Deal?

Anybody know what the sign says heading S as you approach Philly from the N? Baltimore or Washington?

There are Balimore signs just south of Philly on 95 and south of the DMB on 295.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Oh come on Philly. The inferiority complex is real and I get it, but the reason it says NY is that through commuters don't go through Philly. It's to avoid confusion.

Doesn't everybody use I-295 so they can avoid going through Philly?

Maybe we should clear up the confusion by swapping which parts we call I-295 and I-95... that way, people who are just driving through wouldn't get confused like half of them do now... plus, the Philly road sign worriers could feel even worse because their city's highway would be numbered as just a minor arc of Interstate instead of the main thing...

I never understood why they did that, and I can see how it would be very confusing for someone from outside the region. As it is, I-95 comes to an abrupt end at US 1 north of Trenton, and then reappears as part of the NJ Turnpike at the intersection with I-195. Dumb.

Thanks to some interesting comments on Fark (where I found the story), apparently they're building an interchange* where I-95 crosses I-276/PA Turnpike, and they're going to eventually run 95 across to the NJ Turnpike on that existing road while the original route becomes a spur to Trenton.

*Because why would Pennsylvania have an interchange there already? That would make sense. Also, according to this, the interchange is the last official project under the original Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. The more you know.

That will make a little more sense. And no surprise the convoluted way it is now is due to certain special interests getting their way back when the highway was built.
