Clay Helton will be the permanent coach at USC. Very surprised by that. He did alright in his audition, but I figured they'd really want to go with a big name.

Not sure what that has to do with it. The last NCAA punishment was from stuff that happened 3 coaches ago....5 if you count interims.

Same basic background too: a long-time very-successful coordinator for a HC who was seen as (among the) tops in the country...

It sounds more and more like Sonny Dykes might be headed to Missouri, which would open up another mid-to-top tier job at Cal.
