And then there's that. Hell, I wouldn't even do it if asked unless I was guaranteed complete anonymity. I would not want to be a committee member driving through the Deep South the year after only one SEC team was selected for the playoff.
Yep, it's not like some kind of "civic duty" thing to serve on this committee. It's a pretty thankless job IMO.

Willingham is the first former FBS coach that has been identified of the individuals reported by ESPN that will be on the committee.
Willingham, who played at Michigan State, was 76-88-1 in 14 seasons at Stanford (1995-2001), Notre Dame (2002-04) and Washington (2005-08).
And the problem with this in addition to perceived biases, is that he might go back to coaching.

If nothing else, I at least give them credit for spreading out the biases evenly among the conferences.

ESPN and The Associated Press last week identified the 13 members as Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Pat Haden, Tom Jernstedt, Jeff Long, Oliver Luck, Archie Manning, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.

I would've preferred someone who was indepedent or atleast not currently affliated with a school to be leading this thing. The former NCAA exec probably would've been a good choice.

Glendale's University of Phoenix Stadium, the site of the Fiesta Bowl and home of the Arizona Cardinals, was chosen over three other venues for the Jan. 11, 2016, game.
Tampa's Raymond James Stadium was selected over five other venues for the Jan. 9, 2017, game. Raymond James hosts the Outback Bowl each year and is home to the South Florida Bulls and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The NFL has said they won't go back to Miami for a SB until upgrades are made to Sun Life Stadium. I wonder if the college playoff committee feels the same way, now that the BCS rotation that included Miami is over.

We act like that's not a big deal now. That's one of the great things you have in college football. We're so involved in winning a championship that we're forgetting the tradition and history of doing things."
That's arbitrary to me in the first place, even if it wasn't considered as such 20-30 years ago. People overvalue bowl games. I still doesn't watch them, enjoy them, and it's a big deal for program like UCF and Boise when they make these games and win them. However, I don't think Bama would've thought "amazing season" if they had won the Sugar Bowl this year.
"And how many times was the BCS ever wrong?" Fisher said. "How many times did they ever get it wrong at the end? We've still got the same problem. You're going to argue over who's four and five or who's two and three. What's the difference?"
The new system will be wrong as well, it's still better than what we have IMO. I've said I wouldn't likely go further, but I'd like to see what happens here first.
He said the physical toll of playing major college football is greater than at the sport's lower levels, where playoffs can extend seasons to 16 games for teams that play for a championship.
That I agree with him on, also a lot more travel for the FBS teams than the FCS teams. I'm not saying a 16 team playoff couldn't be done at the FBS level but I believe this argument has validity. Besides which, I don't how banged up a team like Towson was from all the games they played.
Ultimately he actually does say he's fine with the playoff, I just don't subscribe to the devaluing the bowls, even though that is likely to happen. It actually already besides the Rose Bowl and even traditionalists are upset without the annual Big 10/Pac 10(now 12) matchup.

CBS Sports: FWAA, NFF partner to form new 'Super 16' college football poll

The Football Writers Association of America and National Football Foundation have partnered to form the FWAA-NFF Grantland Rice Super 16 poll beginning in 2014. The announcement was made Tuesday morning.
Beginning this season, the top 16 teams will be ranked weekly by a roster of 36 voters. Twenty-six of those will be FWAA members, “current or past writers of national stature," according to the press release. The 10 NFF voters will consist college football hall of fame players, coaches and administrators.
