BSL: Previewing West Virginia; Future of the Quarterbacks

http://baltimorespor...e-quarterbacks/

In this article, I look at how the Terrapins can come away with a win in Morgantown on Saturday. I also look at the future of the quarterback position, and how long I think it'll take for Dwayne Haskins to get on the field for Mike Locksley's offense.

Avoid turnovers. Get some early points. Don't get run off the field early. Run the ball effectively.

Haven't seen a current line, saw 16.5 early in the week. Seems about right, but never know with rivalry game.

Defensive or Special Teams score would be nice.

If history tells us anything, this will be a good, tight game. A few key plays could decide it. Don't be surprised to see some tricks from Mike Locksley. He had a Wild-Crab package he pulled out in the Spring Game with Will Ulmer taking the snaps. According to Shane Cockerille, there's apparently a package with both fullbacks in the backfield. Usually, offensive coordinators save some plays for their first big game. I remember in 2013 we saw a double-reverse to Deon Long against West Virginia and Stefon Diggs attempt a pass against Florida State the next week.

Like running a decent offensive play? :D

This game is going to come down to whether or not the defense can get a couple of important stops. WV got 33 first downs in last season's game. It'll be a long day if that happens again.

Definitely agree with that, and they'll need to hold the Mountaineers to field goals instead of touchdowns when they get into the red-zone. This year's team isn't built as much on big plays down the field as last year's, they'll want to run the ball and throw short passes, stringing together drives and marching down the field. This fits the skill-set of the team and of Skyler Howard. If the Terps can make Howard throw when he gets into the red zone, they'll have a much better chance than if they allow West Virginia to just run it into the end zone.

So.... about that game today, and the QB situation this year and next...

I'm not totally opposed to the idea of Haskins first start next year being October 1st... if what you said (that he gets playing time in the first 3 games) happens.

Ultimately though, if the overall plan has Haskins starting at the time of conference play, I think you would be better off just having him start to begin the year.

Narrow the playbook, add a bit more each week. Gain that experience.

As game time approaches, I'm feeling more and more like this is a shellacking... something really ugly. I hope I'm wrong... but Rowe made so many awful decisions last week... and WVU will get theirs.

It could.  I think you will know very early if MD will be competitive.

Sorry Minter is injured, but I'm glad to see Prince join the starting lineup.

What about Xfinity?

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
