Apparently, some states (read as: the ones who've banned DFS) already have their own leagues going. So that should tell you a lot about this whole shakedown.

Not that these DFS leagues don't have their own shady practices, as evidenced by the whole "insider trading" scandal that's started this, but color me skeptical about the real motivation behind what's going on.

But all of it revolves around the original lie: that daily fantasy isn't gambling. States have the right to regulate gambling, and even run their own (like lotteries). So of course they are going to try and take control.

And they would have gotten away with it too, if it for you meddling kids and your stupid dog!

Seriously though, these assholes had a perfect thing going, complete with loophole and all, and they screwed it up.

ProFootballTalk: Congressman wants DFS companies to identify NFL personnel who play

Officially, NFL employees are allowed to participate in fantasy sports, although they have limits on the prizes they are allowed to collect.

ESPNNCAA prohibits DraftKings, FanDuel from advertising during championships

Doesn't extend to the BCS Championship b/c it's not "run" by the NCAA.

I hope they shut em down so we dont have to see the commercials and their name plastered on everything anymore.
These douches that you see in the commercials and that play 500 lineups in a tournament to steal most of the winnings will have to go back to actually working for a living. Im for it.

Pierre Garcon filed a lawsuit (class-action on behalf of all NFL players) against FanDuel.

Not the best way to ingratiate yourself with the fans Pierre.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Neither is getting fans' money stuck in accounts frozen by the federal government, but that hasn't stopped FanDuel.

That would be the govts fault

Usually breaking the law is the fault of the lawbreaker, though.

They're not breaking the law. They got popular and now the govt needs to butt in as usual.

DraftKings, which was not named as a defendant in the suit, has a licensing and marketing agreement with the NFL Player's Association while FanDuel does not, USA Today reported.

ESPN is reporting that the New York attorney general has ordered DraftKings and FanDuel to stop operations in that state, because it is illegal gambling. They also say this could affect 10% of the customers for each company.

I've been blowing off the "fearmongering" type stuff, not buying into the hype, and keeping my millions (actually $725), in there, but this news is alarming for sure.

I mean, it's clearly gambling.

We can all have differing opinions on whether or not gambling should be legal, I think it should be in all forms, but there is no sane argument that daily fantasy (or even season-long fantasy for money) is not gambling.
