I always figured for most people it was a moral thing like "do you know how poorly these chickens are treated?"   To me, being steamed or boiled alive isn't a picnic.

The beef industry is responsible for a good chunk of methane in the atmosphere. Shellfish don't have that problem. However, I'm a firm believer that if crustaceans could scream, we would not boil them alive like we do.

I love burgers and steaks, but I do try to cut back due to environmental issues (including the elimination of habitat for wild animals) and health reasons.

I don't understand people who don't eat meat but will eat seafood. 

My mom's explanation is that the "seafood"(and fish) don't have families while the "meat" ones do. That's just one person justifying this.

Panera's tomato basil sandwich is one of my favorites. Delicious.

In all seriousness, kudos to anyone who can go from eating "normal" to eating like this. I could never do it. I wish I had that kind of will power.

 

I don't know about anybody else, but for me it didn't require a lot of will power...  if you're eating good stuff that's vegetarian rather than eating boring stuff that's not satisfying...  the main challenge was just not forgetting and eating meat by accident...

 

The trick is find vegetarian meals that are satisfying... when I did it, that was easy... mainly because I was hanging with other folks who had been doing it for a long time, so they knew what they were doing...

 

After just a little while, the idea of eating big hunks of meat seemed gross to me... and it still does... except for a good cheeseburger or the very-occasional ribeye, the meat I eat regularly is a pretty small portion of the meal...it's usually part of something, rather than a thing by itself... I think back to when it was normal to eat a 16 oz steak and it seems like another world... I could not do that now...
