My question is what this means for newer voters. The press release says that voters must have been active in the BBWAA within the past ten years, but that could also mean that any writer currently in the BBWAA--even those like Neyer and Law who have been made members within the past few years--is now eligible.

This is a great step, and a huge step, too. Arguably the greatest criticism of the Hall voting over the past few years has been due to the voting pool, and notorious problems like the golf-magazine writers receiving ballots despite not covering baseball actively back as far as the mid-1980s. It also hasn't just been an outside cause, with a number of reporters inside the process offering criticism.

I also like that this isn't a blanket "ten years and out" rule. A reporter who still offers some active coverage can keep their ballot on a case-by-case basis. That's how it should be.

The Hall announced today that they would be sending out an estimated 475 ballots this year. That is about 20 percent fewer than the 600 or so mailed last year, and 74 less than the total ballots cast last year.

Please give one to Jonah Keri.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Please give one to Jonah Keri.

He officially became a BBWAA member in 2013. So he's got a few more years to go.

Too late to help Raines.
