A couple of bloops over the weekend and his favorite punching bag coming to town has gotten Mountcastle going.  Mountcastle is going to have to be big, if the Orioles are going to pull off the impossible.

Probably picking nits, but I did not like that at bat he had in the first inning last night.  Bases already loaded no outs and Mountie swings at the first pitch and gets the GIDP.

Yeah especially when the pitcher had been showing trouble finding the strike zone. But perhaps the flip side is that he knows that and expected a pitch he could hit?

I think I mentioned the same thing in the game thread, but I do not worry about one at bat.  Ryan came through last night and was part of the win.

We have a Mountcastle problem. Hays too but Hays has been better overall and plays good defense at a valuable position.

Ice cold the past month. Not worried long term, I think he's a 110-120 bat most years which is fine, but his limitations are clear.

Sign Trey? Been a while since I looked at the FA lists and I didn't have 1B in mind.

If Mateo has a solid finish, he becomes a much more plausible option at SS, leaving tons of capital available for elsewhere.

Ive locked Mateo into SS and eventually Henderson in at 3b. Have to figure out 1b, RF, DH, and 2b. Obviously some filled internally.

Mountcastle is gonna get one of those spots. I'd be quite surprised to see him dealt.

Santander moving on wouldn't be surprising.

Stowers in RF seems likely.

Urias/Vavra/Westburg also feels like enough for 2B.

I still want a stud SS and will move Mateo, but he's been great for a while so if he can avoid another 500 OPS month to finish I'd be a lot more open to the idea.

I dont see them handing out starting spots to more than 2 rookies. So if Westburg, Henderson, and Stowers are all starting Ill be surprised. Throw Vavra in there too even if he loses his rookie status

I'd be very surprised if Mountcastle isn't starting for the O's next year.  He's cold now, but he can hit.  He's not a star, but he can be a productive bat on a very good team.  He's not an issue that has to be addressed to me. 

But the O's absolutely need him, Hays, and Mullins to come alive these last 50 games and produce.
