I don't think Ryan wins the award, and in the end it does not matter much, but Ryan has made it pretty clear that he is a long term piece for the Orioles.

Define longterm? Because that will depend on how much he costs in arbitration. I'm full on skeptical now that they'll ever spend. Hope to be proven wrong.

You can sort mlb.com Stats by Rookies. Here's the Hitters and here's the Pitchers.
RM and Adolis Garcia are basically in a dead heat right now.
Pitchers have been pretty inconsistent and none of them jump off the page with their stats.
Maybe a guy like Wander Franco gets hot, but RM can grab some hardware with a good 2 months.

I didn't realize that Arozerena is a rookie. I'd probably vote for him so far.

Their numbers are very close. Mountcastle’s slightly better. Arozerena is doing it in the pennant race and Ryan is doing it in the obscurity that surrounds Oriole baseball.

I think Mountcastle is an ascending player who may be the next Oriole star, but the key is the minor league pitching. The Orioles have John Means and really no one else. If the young pitching fails the rebuild will fail. To me it is that simple.

Here's the good thing though I think about how it seems Elias is rebuilding. It's not a grow the arms, buy the bats philosophy.
Hitters are easier to develop and project than pitchers. Develop the best players you can in your system, and go ahead and make trades/acquisitions as time goes on. Houston has certainly done that with acquisitions of Greinke and Verlander. They were able to sign a Charlie Morton type. They're rotation was not all that home grown.

Wow, that is all over the board. I think the consistency will come as he matures and is surrounded by better players. I think the weakness of our lineup, really affects guys like Mountcastle.
