I would guess that part of it too is that with betting done online now the regulators can determine where a certain bet was placed, and if you're in one of these college towns it's probably harder to hide.

Read something the other day detailing the Alabama head coach. Apparently the bets were placed in Ohio or Indiana but they were able to link the coach to the bettor. I dont want to give a direct quote but it was noted how FD said they get so little action on college baseball. Think they said they had zero action on the Bama LSU game(s) that were in question.

Yeah, it was the Ohio gaming commission that flagged the Alabama bets. Curious to see what gets revealed about the Iowa players, and if they at least tried to cover their tracks some....you'd have to be pretty dumb to place the bets on campus with your own account, but who knows.

Their rules seem pretty straightforward: you can't bet on any sport, at all.

I would [ahem] wager that a good portion of this activity is just college athletes doing typical sports wagering like any non-athlete would do, and little if any would lead to suspicions of insider info or point shaving. But, rules are rules.

No, they finished just outside of the national Top 16 so weren’t selected as a regional host site. I’ve seen some projections placing them as the #2 seed in Virginia’s group.
