Only caught the tail end of the announcement... but leaving the radio show.

Admittedly, part of the reason I like SVP is that his love of the Terps (and O's)... but I've enjoyed his show. Him and Russillo have great chemistry.

Very entertaining, even if there were some things as a listener that I didn't love.

That's cool... as the link says, the format has already moved to this... guys ditch their ties... more commentary from the anchors.
Obviously he's continued to do SportsCenter... this will be tailored to him.

Interested to see what happens with Russillo.  NBA, NFL, and NCAAF talk that he brings is excellent.

I like both SVP and Russillo and their show is entertaining from what I've heard of it. I guess it's possible I'll miss it during summer break since I'll actually be able to listen when it's on, but no big loss for me personally.

Isnt the midnight sports center the L.A. based one that runs through 9 am? Gonna be tough to make it to all those Terps games being based in Cali.

It has been. Don't know if he will be moving to LA.  I kind of doubt it.

Depending on his contract and what happens with Simmons, it wouldn't totally be shocking if he ended up going to do something with Bill.

I would guess that ESPN gives him his own show or something, though.

Sure, definitely can see that. He had a relationship with Simmons prior to ESPN, has done the Grantland Basketball hour, etc..

He's become one of ESPN's best analyst voices.... but I don't think they recognize him as that.

Understatement of the year but clearly a big time of transition for the Mothership.

Sounds like it'll be a new format. But the article suggests it isn't anything new. "Mix of highlights, commentary, and interviews tailored to Van Pelt."

So...Here's what LeBron did tonight. Heres what LeBron said after the game. Lets have a discussion on LeBron's night. Here with more on LeBrons night is so and so analyst so and so ...good night everyone.

I like Van Pelt, but the "new format" sounds like the same old same old from ESPN. I'll check it out, but I've been watching FS1 for a while now, as they do the best job at giving you maximum highlights, and further analysis on important topics without beating a dead horse.

Bigger loss than Simmons IMO....SVP will still be there but who the hell is watching at midnight.

ESPN trying to compete with Fallon?

Bigger loss to you personally maybe, but not even close to a bigger loss for ESPN. SVP could totally leave and it wouldn't be as big of a loss.

Also, in terms of who the hell is watching at midnight, well mid-day sports talk radio isn't exactly prime time.

Good point but people do listen at work, in cars, etc...

Obviously SVP has internal motivations for this move... be it more $, preferring the time..  a new challenge...  whatever.

I guess I'll wait to see the show, and see if I'm surprised....  but on the surface, seems like a step back.  Giving some opinions during a Sports Center, isn't quite the same as commentating on everything in extended fashion for multiple hours a day.

Do have to see the new SC first though. Maybe it really will best use his abilities.

Again, I'm more interested in what happens with Russillo.

Sure, but it's not a good time slot.

And midnight Eastern is 9 out on the West Coast, so actual primetime.

I'd be curious to see what the ratings are for his SC vs. the total audience simulcast of SVP / Russillo.  I would think it would be pretty close, but maybe not. The radio show bounces around TV often.

Clearly SVP thinks the new SC is a better opportunity, so that's another indication the SC audience would be larger I guess.

Yeah, I guess so. He might prefer the schedule too and/or just the work itself.
