Another great gold medal game showing for ‘KD’, who may have chiseled himself into ‘the Rushmore’ of international play. Durant scored 28 points in the 2010 FIBA gold medal game, 30 in the 2012 Olympics gold medal game, 30 in the 2016 Olympics gold medal game, and 29 in the 2021 gold medal game last night. The model of consistency. He’s led the Americans to three Olympic gold medals, and became the US’ all-time Olympic scorer this week. He and Giannis are the two best players in the world.
Interestingly, the US team had just one of the 15 players to receive a vote in the 2021 NBA MVP voting - Damion Lillard. No LeBron. No AD, No Curry or Kawhi. Obviously, no Giannis, ‘Joker’, or Luka. No Embiid. For what it’s worth, no Harden or Westbrook. Even more reason to hail the ‘Slim Reaper’.

Anyone with Paramount Plus, there's a great series on how '92 Dream Team saved the NBA. Watching those guys play puts this new team in perspective and how the stars of today's NBA are selfish for not playing.

Some of those guys were hurt at the end of the season (and previously represented Team USA) and another is quite old and already has two gold medals.
I don't think the expectation is to play every possible time or you're selfish. If that's the case, some of those Dream Team guys would qualify as well.
