Exactly. And he said when he'd get behind in counts, or give up a hit, he'd pitch angry and try and force his way out of it instead of pitching out of it. Impressive for him to recognize this and adjust the way he did. And a huge relief.
Well he did have some start and stop. And just had a kid. And his dad just passed recently. He’s had a LOT going on this year.

FanGraphs: Five Starters to Monitor for 2021
I am very pro Means. I think his issues early in this season are easily explainable, and as he got innings the touch came back. It will be interesting to see if the velocity holds true next year and if he can sustain it over 162.

This is Means 3rd Team Control year. He starts arbitration in 2022.

If we are still worrying about arbitration in 2022, then we will have bigger problems. That would be Elias's 4th year. If we are still giving away arbitration players 2 seasons from now, we are not rebuilding but just being losers.

I didn't really define my point but that wasn't it so directly.

Yea, I know, but it IMO soon will be time for the Orioles to stop hiding behind the we are rebuilding theme. At some point, you need to start keeping your better players and try to work out deals that are beneficial to both the team and the player. In addition, it will soon become time to bring good players in via, trades and free agency for spots that can not be filled from your farm system. 2022 should be that year for the Orioles. If Means does well in 2021, then we need to find a way to keep him and others.

I am looking forward to seeing if the velocityMeans showed last year stays. I think Means is going to have a good year.

John Means' 80 Game Score today was better than any of the 26 starting pitchers who worked Thursday had. That group averaged 46.6. It was also Means' best career Game Score in 38 big-league starts.

Means turns 28 the end of this week. He's under control until 2025. If he keeps pitching like this do you think the O's move him this summer?
With the team control left he might well fetch a pretty dang big return given the lack of decent SP. Not suggesting thats what I think the O's should do but I imagine that they'd certainly entertain offers.

Could be a Bedard like return if he keeps this up. That trade was a game changer.
Maybe, but I think he is better than Bedard. I am done with trading every good player we have. We are working on our 4th terrible year in a row, with 3 being on Elias's watch. Trading Means, Mancini, Santander etc. pushes the time line back. Does the team get a 5 or 6 year pass?
Means can be the staff anchor for 4 or 5 years.

I'll remain of the position that the Orioles will continue to try and pare back payroll into the 2022 season for very specific reasons that nobody here cares about.
The consequence could be a continued exodus of any 3+ year players....Means has 3+ years after this season.
Means situation is unique in that, with continued performance/health, he could command some significant return.
So you're looking for a team with need, money and some top prospects that might be blocked making them more available in a trade.
The top team for consideration for me would be the Mets. They are heavily invested in NOW with an owner that wants to push.
So if the Mets showed up and offered....
Ronny Mauricio (SS), Mark Vientos (3B), Jordany Ventura (RHP), and Joander Suarez (RHP)
for
Means, Tanner Scott, Ryan McKenna and they take Davis (final year at 17M)
I think that's a Baseline that the Orioles would do in the offseason (or now).
