Buck said he’s not sure who will start tomorrow or Wednesday. Yefry Ramirez has a cut and probably won’t start Wed. It’s possible John Means will start one of those games.

His number don't look to bad at Norfolk.

This season gets more incredible by the day.
We are running out of pitchers.

He actually fits the mold, from what I can tell, of a new regime type of arm.
He changed his windup a little from last year, with what looks like a hesitation on the back swing, where he hides the ball behind his body.
He was already working off of his offspeed stuff, so this is just making his fastball more of a hitter deterrent.
If he's throwing 95 while hiding the ball better, with good location and movement, he really is going to be a surprise.

I like Means a lot. I've seen him pitch a few times, just coincidentally during games the kids and I went to. He was also super nice to my daughter on opening night, made sure to say hi and fist bumped her as we were leaving the field even though he was warming up.
He's one of those guys that doesn't blow you away when you see it. There's no Mo Cutter or Zach(k) Sinker...but he's just steady good. If his control was a tiny bit better I'd make the Jimmy Key comparison, and I mean tiny bit. The improved velo might be that little bump he needs to make those AA numbers work in the majors.

He looked like he had an idea on what he wanted to do.
Looking forward to seeing his next time out.
If he can carry that change up, he can contribute.

John Means had 17 swinging strikes on 92 pitches tonight to give him a 15.25 percent swinging strike rate in 20 2/3 innings. That is fifth in all of baseball among pitchers with 20 innings behind Blake Snell, Max Scherzer, Matthew Boyd, and Gerrit Cole.

Cool article. But then I am biased toward soccer players. Sounds like she's a "keeper'.....LOL

Sweet. I really hope he has a good start. I don't want to feel like the one big, potentially long-term positive from this season has already turned into a pumpkin.

Happy for Means but Trey should have been the pick.
That said, what a great story for Means.
Almost can bet he doesn't pitch. He will be the emergency guy in case the game goes extra.

The more encouraging stuff I saw out of his last outing is that he was using other pitches-he had at least one K on a breaking ball, and his fastball was reaching 94. If he has a third show-me pitch with control, a fastball at 92-94, and a change up 79-81, then you start looking at no 1-2 starter territory.
