Assistant at Miami (NBA), interesting. No head coaching performance. Risky higher, but he will have talent to coach, and they'll love him, at least to start.

VCU’s Mike Rhoades is headed to State College to coach PSU. Looks like he will be replaced by former UMBC and current Utah St head coach Ryan Odom.
Surprised to see Odom leave the Mountain West for the A10, but perhaps he wanted to come back east.

It’s as lateral of a move as I can think of, but I bet he wants to get back East.
Plus that VCU job has basically been a springboard for a better job for the last decade or so for multiple guys.

Long list of names seem pretty eager to come out and say they don't want the Kentucky job. Baylor's Scott Drew appears to be the latest.

Pope played there, so at least he knows what he's signing up for. But yeah, this sounds like an "every other option said 'no' so let's go with the alum and hope for the best" kind of hire.
