Well his range to his right didn't look good on that hit in the ninth.

I thought that was more mental vs. physical.  Game effectively over, and not completely in the game.

Numbers show he's been a below average SS for his career... my expectation is that is what he would be if he played as a regular... but he looks plenty capable as a reserve.

Stop picking nits. He has looked solid defensively so far at SS. I disagree anyway. He was pretty deep in the hole there and was trying to time everything up to catch, transfer, and fire.

Yeah, he looks like a fine reserve.

IMO, it wasn't that he couldn't get to the ball it was that he was already thinking about making the transfer and jump throw.   If his sole focus was on catching the ball, he would have.     He's looked very good to me, both defensively and offensively.    Much more talented player than Flaherty.

The problem wasn't range... the problem was that he was working on the plant-and-throw part before he actually did the catch-the-ball part... it's good that he was thinking ahead like that, just not good that it interfered with his focus on catching the damn thing...

As for whether he's better than Flash, I need to see more...

Infielder Everth Cabrera says he is learning things from the Orioles coaches that the Padres never taught him. Perhaps Cabrera is simply trying to get in the Orioles’ good graces — he served a 50-game PED suspension in 2013, and in February agreed to a plea deal for resisting arrest. It’s true, though, that Cabrera is adding new elements to his game.

He had a tendency to retreat with his hands on grounders and baby the ball, but Orioles coach Bobby Dickerson has talked to him about securing and controlling the ball. Cabrera knew he was a below-average defender according to advanced metrics, and he volunteered as much to Dickerson. Clearly, he wants to get better.

Another case of the Orioles making ballplayers better... like God intended...
