I have had a Sony sound bar for over a year and I have had issues with it since I got it.

Tonight I went to get a new digital optic cable and that didn't fix the problem and now, since we have tried so many things, the actual input has stripped and we can't even get the cable back in.

At this point, it's a worthless piece of junk. I am now not sure if I should go with a new sound bar or just use the TV volume.

Any thoughts on this? Do any of you have experience with sound bars..love them? Hate them?

I have had a Vizio soundbar with woofer since I've had my flat panel TV.  I'm very happy with the sound.   I don't know how long I've had it...4 years?   Never had any trouble.

Mine is a Vizio VSB210WS.

Only thing i know is you want to get one with a decent channel  (or something) I was looking at ones on black friday and all the ones on sale were in the 2.1 mhz range. Did some research and 2.1mhz is ok if you have a small bedroom (Why you would get a sound bar for your small bedroom, i dont know) But if you put those in a living room, you wont really enjoy it. So for the bigger rooms you need one around 6-8mhz or more.

Never did pull the trigger on getting one, but will in the near future I think. President's day sales seem to be good time. I think this is the time of year in retail store need to rid of a lot to make room for new things.

Have heard good things about Sonos.

Might want to check the selection at Gramophone:

I have thought about Sonos(every time I hear that, I think of Bababooey) but I don't feel like spending $700 on it right now.

If you have almost any recent TV, its sound will be terrible simply because they're so thin there's no room for even semi-decent speakers.

Lots of sound bars will do fine, it's not like you need to get the best one.  The main thing is to avoid getting a crappy one. (Given the nature of the task, I think it's kinda amazing that anybody would make a crappy sound bar... but they do.)

I haven't looked into them since I got mine... and I didn't get a Vizio, they had QA problems back then, but I know they have earned a good bang-for-buck reputation... if I was sure I wanted a soundbar, I'd first figure out what format I required (subwoofer?  if so, wired or wireless?) and after narrowing it down by that, I'd go by consumer reviews on amazon for something like this, just to see if there's something comparable to Vizio's price that people seem to like more...

I got a soundbar that's thicker than most, mainly because that allows for better speakers, size-wise... but it was too tall to sit in front of the TV without blocking a tiny part of the screen... so I wound up spending $20 on brackets to mount it right on top of the TV... which works fine... but if I was doing it now, I'd look into the speaker bases they have now that the TV can sit directly on top of... the size of the cabinet for something like that could be used to make it sound better than just something thin like a soundbar... not sure if they take advantage of that, but they could if they wanted to...

I'll also second a Vizio sound bar. Got one in our bedroom, love it. Sounds great even without the sub.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

If I was buying something today, I'd get this at the 2/20-only price: http://smile.amazon....rd_p=1975288722
