Guys that I'd be pleased to see the O's take (ranked around the point they're picking):

Duke LHP - Mike Matuella

HS (TX) 3B - Ke'Bryan Hayes

HS (GA) 2B/CF - Alonzo Jones (blazing speed, switch-hitter, solid bat)

HS (GA) RHP - Nick Neidert

Pacific OF - Gio Brusa

Boston College 1B - Chris Shaw

HS (TN) 3B - Bryce Denton

HS (IL) LHP - Bryan Hudson (projectable 6'7" frame)

You favor targeting what the system is short of... to me, what makes sense is to get the best players available and sort 'em out later...

If there's any basis for saying which approach is best, I don't know what it is...

Well, now I do...

"I think the most important thing in the first round is to line up your board and you have to take the best player. If you look for a certain position or demographic, sometimes you can make a mistake and pass up a better player.

"I think the average fan would be surprised that in a typical draft, to get a true star, you might have a half-dozen of those guys. And then maybe 12-15 others that have lengthy big league careers, where they are solid regulars for a decade. And that's it.

"So if you start eliminating high school guys or want to zero in on a college arm and there are only 20-30 really good players in the draft to begin with, you can't afford to eliminate any of those in looking at a certain demographic."

Predicting Gary Rasjich's 2015 draft as he goes back to what worked in the 2013 draft where he went HS heavy (1. Harvey 1A. Hart 2. Sisco 4. Heim 5. Seabrooke 6. Murphy

I mean this as a serious question.....why do you think the 2013 draft worked well?

I don't hate the draft, but from 1A to 5 it all feels like overdrafts that we don't even have timelines for success right now.

I hope we DON'T go after players like Hart any move (at least in the early rounds)....and while Sisco seems like he may work out ok, does he have any kind of real projection (impact) on him at this point?

I certainly want them to continue to find guys like Dosch (7th), Horacek (9th), Brault (11th), Yastrzemski (14th), Keller (22nd) after the 5th round...

....but I'm a little leery of early rd talent that squares up HS pitching where you really pretty much on the HIt Tool and athleticism to succeed.

There is absolutely the chance that bigger tools don't translate either, but at least if the tools hit, you have something to project.

I have serious skepticism about Hart but still a long way to go and they have pushed him.    He has shown ZERO power which is a concern but he has cut down on his K's a lot while being pushed to High A.

I like that draft for the following reaons.

1. Jonah Heim is a legit catching prospect and either just turned 20 or is about to.

2. Hunter Harvey was better than expected even if it turns out he needs TJ surgery

3. Sisco is a legit bat.   Overdraft for you.  Doesn't Rajsich get credit for popping him in the 2nd round and Sisco justifying the selction.   Doesn't that mean the people who had him lower on their boards were wrong and Rajsich was right?    Of course not.   You guys never admit to that kind of stuff.    Nothing personal, but you draft guys evaluate guys on draft day and the rankings never change in your mind.  Sisco could win a batting title in the majors and you would still say he was an overdraft.

4. We don't know much about Seabrooke since he was out all last year but he was another projectionable lefty pitcher.

5. Murphy has had a nice season at Delmarva and is a catcher.   That's 3 HS catchers.   We'll see if all three stay there.

6. He was still able to draft some nice college bats with Dosch and Mancini.

That was easily his best and deepest draft.   Of course, it was tough to have a deep and good draft last year without a #1 or #2.

BTW my, admittedly, very amateurish draft based on reading the BA website scouting reports and looking at the videos goes like this.   Based on picking players who are ranked at or lower than our selecting spot.

1. Richie Martin  SS U of Florida   (very athletic. true SS, young for this draft class. doesn't turn 20 til December)

1A.. Chris Shaw 1B/RF Boston College (power lefty bat)

2. Kevin Blanenship  HS SS (solid HS bat in mold of Sisco.  Future is probably 3B

3. Desmond Lindsay  (HS OF.  Power and speed from RH batter)   Current 3B.  Projects to LF or CF

4-10  Go for the arms.

Note: we will move this to appropriate section of the board over the next week but wanted everyone to see it. Nick(as he usually does) had some great insight about a lot of topics.

So, I have a lot of reaction to what Nick had to say here.

First of all, I want to thank Nick again for his time. He has always been willing to come on our show, answer questions, etc...I appreciate that.

As for what he had to say here, here are some thoughts:

1). I have felt a bundy should be dealt for a while. Now, I don't want to dump him or deal him for some set up man but I agree with Nick that if we can get a good player a team is willing to wait on him, pull the trigger on the deal.

2). What he had to say about Stewart was encouraging.

3). To add to what he said about Stewart, it's encouraging to hear he felt good about the draft even if he felt they should go in other directions.

4). I'm a big Jomar Reyes fan and feel that he may be our best prospect because of the injury uncertainty with Harvey and Bundy.

5). I'm glad to hear he is still encouraged about KG. the curveball he flashed today is good to see. Hopefully he improves thst pitch.

Yea, I saw. You are doing a good job with that.

When I looked yesterday, I didn't see Fenter on there and I also wanted to add this here since I directly asked Nick about it.

But yea, I'm glad you are doing that. Be good to look at the "other guys" Nick mentioned and make sure they sign those guys.

@Britt_Ghiroli: Nothing new on Hunter Harvey's rehab Buck said. Also team is not sure of the next step w/ Bundy. Will try to rule out other shoulder issues

I just wanted to write this somewhere and not start a new thread.

I usually watch a handful of guys I wanted the Orioles to draft.

This year it's Nathan Kirby, David Thompson, Kolton Kendrick and Isiah Gilliam.
