One of these days I'm driving up the PCH.  It's my ultimate vacation.

Don't pick a weekend... or a rainy day... you'll be going slow the whole time... which is fine for the first hour...

For SoCal, Stone and The Bruery for sure. Not sure otherwise as there are a ton to choose from. I'll do some more research, beyond that it will come down to where we are staying (will split time between the SD area and OC) and time.

Recommendations?

If you don't want to go to Escondido then definitely go to the Liberty Station in SD, near the airport.  The other downtown locations aren't quite as good.  Also, definitely Ballast Point (Really good beers including the Sculpin IPA and Grapefruit Sculpin IPA, plus it's really easy to get some "souvenir" glasses) and Mother Earth (which is kinda more up near the Stone in Escondido).

Other ones down there I like are Pizza Port and Green Flash.

And if you somehow make it up to/around the I.E., Hangar 24 out in Redlands.

Lemme get two claps and a Ric Flair

I've been to ballast point and pizza port, and other than the two places I mentioned, I mostly want to go to new places. Alpine and Societe are possibilities along with Green Flash.

We're going to the safari park, so that stone isn't out of the way. I'll look into Mother Earth. Thanks.

We booked our Croatia/Montenegro vacation.

September 5-19.

Two weeks still isn't close to being enough time.

Can't wait.

Heading to Buffalo/Niagara Falls/Toronto in two weeks -- trip includes gambling and seeing the O's at Rogers Centre.

Yea I lived up there for three years for law school.  Going with a few friends who have never been.

Have fun man. If you're into wine, you'll be driving through an excellent wine region just over the border in Canada.

It's been 10 years but it's beautiful there. What resort you staying at?

Sorry, I just saw this, we stayed at the Princess Punta Cana All Suites resort and spa on Bavaro beach. It was beautiful. The resort was really nice. Definitely going to go back at some point. We were told to stay at the Excellence Resort next time by the locals. They all said it was bar none the top resort in the Dominican Republic.

I've had a ton of the wines from the Fingerlakes region (upstate NY, where my parents are originally from and lots of family still lives) and I find them all ridiculously sweet.  Don't know if it's the same types of grapes or whatever a bit further north into Canada.

If anyone is looking for an awesome trip to someplace new, consider Vieques, a small island off of Puerto Rico.  Works great as a little 3-4 day long weekend excursion or a full long vacation.

http://www.tripadvis...uerto_Rico.html

Full disclosure, this place is owned by a couple of my best friends.  But I've stayed there a few times myself and it's really fantastic and I'd recommend it even if I didn't know them.  BWI goes direct to San Juan (worth staying a night in Old San Juan as well if you have the time) and then it's a little puddle jumper type flight from there to the island of Vieques.  The beaches there are ridiculous.  There are dozens of little beach spots, some fairly popular (though compared to a typical day in OC, they are empty), others so secluded that you very likely will have them entirely to yourself.

Totally different. The Niagara region is on par with most moderate Napa wines. I was really surprised at how good they were.

Agreed on Niagara wines...they're mostly sweet.

Looking to go to PR sometime soon, maybe in the winter/spring next year. I'll definitely look into Vieques.

I am totally geeked for Montenegro and Croatia..Croatia especially.

A friend of mine went to Croatia in the spring, he said it was beautiful.  I saw one of the 'making of' shows for Game of Thrones, and the places they were shooting in Croatia looked amazing.  Had never really thought of that as a place to visit before, not sure I'd ever seen a picture of what it looks like, but it is gorgeous.  That sounds like an incredible trip you've got planned.  How's the food supposed to be there?

I'm definitely interested in going to Croatia; I've heard great things, including from Zach Lowe talking about it on podcasts. Seems like a good combination of nature, beaches, history, and culture.

My wifes' grandparents lived there. Still have a small house near Keuka lake.

Just watch out for the explosives ;). No, they've cleaned all of that stuff up.

Looks good, lots of seafood. The wine is supposed to be very good too.

A lot of Kings Landing stuff is filmed in Dubrovnik...we might be there when they're filming, but it sounds like most of that takes place in August and we won't be in Dubrovnik until mid-September.

Yeah, we aim to get a lot in while we're there...and we're skipping the northern part of the country that looks awesome too.

I'll be in Boston this weekend for a bachelor party and wedding. Going to Fenway and Harpoon Brewery along with some bars for the bachelor party.

Probably do something touristy Saturday and then the wedding is on Sunday.

Hardly a vacation, but going to the O's series in Philly. Looking for something to do Wednesday day and Thursday night. Thoughts....besides the obvious. Cheese steaks.

Lots of fantastic craft beer bars. Yards brewery is a cool place to hang out too (free shuffleboard and pool). There's a casino super close as well and I know you like to play cards.

Plenty of really good museums too. If you want to be artsy, the Philly Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation are excellent. The Mutter Museum is a really cool medical oddity/ history of medicine museum. Of course there's Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell as well. Lots of history right around there plus the Constitution Museum is right by there and worth a visit.

Also, I highly recommend getting a roast pork sandwhich along with or even instead of a cheese steak.

Cool. Ive been to Yards. Love their beer. And the Art museum is the steps from Rocky if I'm not mistaken.

What craft bars did you go to? I figure there has to be some old timey speakeasy type places up there.
