The O's have made their initial selections in the 2012 Draft.

With that knowledge - combined with the results of the existing prospects through the first couple months of this season - rank the O's Top 15 Prospects.

You might want to refer to this thread: http://baltimorespor....php?f=13&t=398 , which had links to multiple outlets around the web with their rankings of the O's system going into this year.

I would go:

1 Dylan Bundy
2 Manny Machado
3 Kevin Gausman
4 Jonathan Schoop
5 Nick Delmonico
6 Parker Bridwell
7 Branden Kline
8 LJ Hoes
9 Robert Bundy
10 Xavier Avery
11 Mike Wright
12 Jason Esposito
13 Adrian Marin
14 Eduardo Rodriguez
15 Gabriel Lino

Next 6: Glynn Davis, Clayton Schrader, Tyler Townsend, Kyle Simon, Christian Walker, Dan Klein

I could be talked into removing Esposito from the Top 15. As a college guy, his lack of production in Low A is very disappointing to me.

2 Manny Machado
3 Kevin Gausman
4 Jonathan Schoop
5 Parker Bridwell
6 Nick Delmonico
7 LJ Hoes
8 Adrian Marin
9 Xavier Avery
10 Robert Bundy
11 Dan Klein (if he can ever get healthy)
12 Christian Walker
13 Gabriel Lino
14 Tyler Townsend
15 Glynn Davis

Sorry, I just don't like Kline enough to rank him. I hope I'm wrong, but I see us having used a 2nd round pick on a middle reliever.

I suspect my list will be a little different from others.

1 Dylan Bundy
2 Manny Machado
3 Kevin Gausman
4 Jonathan Schoop
5 Nick Delmonico
6 Parker Bridwell
7 LJ Hoes
8 Gabriel Lino
9 Eduardo Rodriguez
10 Xavier Avery
11 Mike Wright
12 Bobby Bundy
13 Johnny Ruettiger
14 Branden Kline
15 Adrian Marin

Just missed or guys could easily jump in throughout the year:
Glynn Davis
Jason Esposito
Clayton Shcrader (REALLY want to put him in here)
Miguel Chalas
Christian Walker
Michael Belfiore (I Think a full season with Orioles will get him some better buzz)
Dan Klein (forgot about him honestly)

I could have put Marin and Kline a lot higher but I honestly have never seen them play but assume they are top 15 prospects in this system. I'm very high on Lino, Rodriguez, Ruettiger, Davis. Probably more than most.
Schrader is absolutely dominant and could and probably SHOULD easily be on the top list. But if he only projects as a RP then I can see why some leave him off.

I thought about Ruettiger. I also like Mummey. I think they all profile similarly with Davis, so went with just him.
I like Schrader a lot as well. Loved the piece Luke Jackson recently had on him. I think you can make a good case for him.

I did think about Belfiore as well. Love his background, and his walks and k's this year. Where you have him, makes sense to me.

I'll admit to not being familiar at all with Chalas really.

I might have jumped the gun a little on him, but he has some talent. Numbers look terrible but he is young and in first year at Delmarva. Pitched really well since April. Had one start where gave up 9 ER so his numbers are really inflated.

Probably falls in the 20ish range now but I think by next years end he could be up there. Or he could totally disregard everything I think and not :D

If the O's added Soler, would he slot in, in-front of or behind Gausman?

I assume he would slot just behind him based off people saying he would be a top 10 pick in this years draft.
Gausman was largely considered top 3-5.

1. Bundy
2. Machado (for now)
3. Gausman (for now)
4. Schoop (positional value/age beats out Delmonico, plus I believe in the bat)
5. Delmonico
6. Avery (could make the case for higher than Schoop based on small samples)
7. Hoes (power will be the last thing to come)
8. Kline
9. Bridwell (like him, but not a ton of confidence, at 9 this is evidence of a stronger system)
10. Wright (ML value as soon as this year)
11. Marin (will be two years, but eventual top 5 guy at least, IMO)
12. Walker (like the approach and contact-ability)
13. Rodriguez (young starters with upside get respect on my list)
14. Schrader
15a. Lino (bat has me a little concerned this year. Time to pick it up again)
15b. Drake (if he could stay healthy, I expect him to be a Mike Wright-type of pitcher for us -- solid BP guy)

I don't believe in Glynn Davis' bat. Ditto Reuttiger. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Bobby Bundy reminds me of Steve Johnson. Fine guy to have, but a middle relief guy.

Dan Klein and Brandon Erbe could be guys to watch, but their injuries scare me away from this list.

Townsend is more than an after thought. Hopefully he uses this time and the offseason to become better nourished, take yoga, or do whatever it is that can help him stay healthy.

I like the Poche pick a lot. Three years from now he could be a stud prospect. Way too much work to do to rank yet though. Ditto Velazquez and Wass, to the extent they're signed, of course.

After thinking about this, I believe RZNJ and Woody Ball might be right with their evaluations of Bridwell. Could make more sense in that 9-12 range.

I think Bridwell is the most difficult prospect to rank this year. I think he's got potential to be as high as 5 or 6, but at some point the production has to match up with his power arm. Right now with his walk rate and low strikeouts I don't know that he fits in the top 10. Depending on how Aberdeen goes this summer, I think guys like Jaime Esquivel and Sebastien Vader could catch up or pass him on a few lists. I'm also intrigued by Zach Davies. He may lack projection in his frame, but he'll continue to add strength as he gets older and he's strung together a few very good starts lately. I had forgotten about him, but I think an argument could be made for placing him in the top 11-15 or so.

This is almost identical to my list. I'd swap Reuttiger and Glynn Davis, but other than that mine is the same.

If they sign Soler all of a sudden a top 5 of Bundy, Machado, Gausman, Soler, and Schoop is probably tops in the league.

I don't feel comfortable listing a top fifteen guys because I think it's silly to include 2012 draftees that we know nothing about. No one knew Adrian Marin or Colin Poche even existed until a few days ago. I am however looking forward to seeing these 2012 draftees in Aberdeen -- klaw said the O's top five of Gausman, Kline, Marin and Walker is a solid haul up top. However, I do have some thoughts on the prospects that I am a little familiar with.

-Dylan Bundy. Arguably the best prospect in baseball. Top prospect in the system and has everything you look for from a potential No. 1 except for maybe a couple inches worth of height that he makes up for the with the downhill plane he gets.

-Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop. It's tough to remember how young these guys are for the Eastern League because of how well Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are playing in the big leagues, but Manny and Jon are very young for their league. Manny's secondary skills are showing (lots of walks, some power). Jon's bat is gradually progressing, but the power hasn't really shown up during games yet. I've watched Jon take BP -- the power is definitely there -- and I think he'll hit for more power as the season goes along. Also remember that these two are seeing more advanced changeups, breaking stuff and pitch sequencing than ever before.

-Nick Delmonico. Like the secondary skills being shown, certainly seems like he can hit. The big question is his eventual defensive home. I'd like to see the O's try Nicky in right field.

-Gabriel Lino. Really intriguing physically, fantastic arm, works with pitchers well...we'll see if they bump him down to Aberdeen to get his bat going. If you rank prospects primarily on ceiling, Lino should be high on the list -- perhaps top five or six. Lino will take a long time but he's got some tools to work with.

-Parker Bridwell. Saw him multiple times at Aberdeen, loved the frame, the projectability and his stuff. Showed a low-90s fastball, flashed a wipeout slider and also had something resembling a changeup. Apparently, Bridwell's struggles at Delmarva mainly stem from not being able to repeat his delivery, which has equated to high BB totals. You're still dreaming on Bridwell, as he's a project. You're dreaming on a possible mid-90s fastball once he fills out with a consistent wipeout slider and a workable changeup. There's a TON of room between that and the present, though. Don't give up on this kid. If you like ceiling, Bridwell should be in an O's top ten. If you prefer a little more probability, perhaps not.

-Zach Davies. My sleeper in the system. Heard he just has a really good idea of what he's doing out there for a 19-year-old. A solid arsenal and a really good idea of pitch sequencing and how to pitch out of jams for a kid his age. Troy Mattes raved about him when I talked with him for my blog.

-Eduardo Rodriguez. Another guy Mattes loves. Probably the third-best pitching prospect in the system. He sits 90-92 with the fastball but has some room to fill out, and if he does so, perhaps a tick or two on the FB comes with it. Eduardo has a lot of funk and deception to his delivery, and we'll see how that plays as he climbs the latter. Mattes said he loves to challenge hitters with his FB, which I love to hear.

I get where you are coming from about adding 2012 prospects we realistically know next to knowing about, but I disagree with the conclusion. I'll readily admit that Marin is a name I just heard for the first time the other day - but seeing where he was selected in the draft, with the $ the O's will have to spend to sign him, and reading comments from people like Law about him; I think you have to include him.

I'm glad you again added the links to your site. Anyone that didn't see those pieces should check them out, lots of great information to be found. The comments on Bridwell make sense, and I'll continue to try and keep them in-mind. Certainly a lot of people that hold him in high-esteem. With those tools and his age, no reason to write him off. Still, I'd be lying if I said I was not down on the overall lack of results at Delmarva. Be nice to see him finish strong these next couple of months, and be on pace for promotion to Frederick next Spring. Not the end of the world if it does not happen, but that would be my hope.

Based off of your comments, I'll start following Davies more.

Everyone says it is Delmonico's bat which will get him to the bigs. I'd like to see him at 1st.

I get that Lino is very young (turned 19 in May), but he came into the year with such hype; I expected him to be a bit more competitive at Delmarva. I kind of like the idea of sending him to Aberdeen and letting him end this year on a high.

I would expect you to be right about Soler.

He had some back problems in high school, so it might not be the worst idea to keep him at 1B at least for now to make sure he stays healthy. Still, I'd hate to pigeonhole a prospect as a first baseman this early on. He's an athletic kid with a good arm.
