4th round pick.

Dan Connolly‏@danconnollysun

Christian Walker has a slash line of .319/.447/.548. From great program. not a lot of pop, 11HRs and 53 RBIs in 58 games

My buddy who went to USC pretty much said the same thing as Callis "Awesome. He can hit, but won't show too much...questionable power"

So, a Lyle Overbay type guy?

That seems to be about right. It's funny, listening to his hitting style - reminded me of Brandon Snyder. Good hit tool, questionable power, and not afraid to take walks.

Edit: "No better. Little more power I think"

See my comments on the general draft thread...

In general, he's not going to grow any more, so he maxes out at 6'0". That is what will limit his power potential. He's a finished product.

That being said, he has some pop. But he's an excellent hitter who takes walks and doesn't strike out. I think Overbay is a better comp than Snyder.

I would actually think of him as a Wally Joyner type of guy, maybe slightly better in the OBP category.

Not sure his height is really important.

He can develop power, more of a lower body strength thing. If he gets some more power could fit something between Daric Barton & Youkilis.

If he has a strong May, will he be in-line for a June promotion to Frederick?

I really think he should/could have started at Frederick, as he has nothing to gain in Delmarva. He has way too much of an advanced approach for the wild-life of pitchers in the SALLY. The problem is finding him room with Delmonico, Esposito, etc at Frederick. I'm still not in love with Walker as much like others, as I really can't tell much from his game until I see him work at higher levels. He has a great approach at the plate, solid discipline, etc. But we already knew that. I want to see him against pitchers that don't just rely on their great stuff to get them by. Basically, I want to see him challenged more before I gather too much.

He needs to be in Bowie. He won't get challenged at the A ball level.

@masnSteve: In his first game today at Frederick after promotion, 1B Christian Walker went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

It's pretty rare for a guy to get drafted and be ready for that level out of the gate, but I don't know that I disagree really. Give him a couple weeks in FRD to see, but he really may not be challenged until AA.

My GUESS without seeing him would be that he's got really good pitch recognition and can spot secondaries a mile away when they aren't fully developed. Once he gets to AA and he's up against guys that have good command AND plus secondaries it'll be a good valuation point.
