DFA'D today to make room for Valaika, who they picked up again.

He's this year's Hanser Alberto

That's disappointing.

I wish Kline was a better pitcher.  Love every time I've heard him talk on the radio.  He'll make a good coach one day, I think.

I expect he ends up back with the Orioles once he clears waivers and we see him at some point this year.  But I don't think he has much hope of sticking.

Why would you DFA a cheap, power arm for a nothing IFer?

Neither matters much but I wouldn’t trade Kline for Valaika and if I traded Valaika for Kline, I would be happy that I at least got something that could turn into a piece.

I still have nightmarish flashbacks to Steve Kline whenever I read that last name attached to a baseball player.

I hate throwing away a power arm for a infielder who is already been waived 3 times.

Kline may never amount to anything, but he has a strong arm in an organization lacking them.

I am not surprised Wilkerson cleared, I am surprised no one took a shot at Kline.

Elias played it well.

End of the road for Kline. He might have struggled, but there's still something there as long as he can figure out how to get hitters out with that fastball.

Letting Kline go to save a few bucks would be a mistake.  He has a big arm, and hopefully can harnass it, in the near future.

The #Orioles announced that Branden Kline and Kohl Stewart have both rejected their outright assignments. They are now free agents.

Stewart was the Orioles' lone major league free agent pitcher last offseason. His tenure in Baltimore ends without making an appearance for them.

Really surprised Kline is gone when Eshelman is still on the roster

I think if he wants to he'll be able to find a job either in broadcasting or maybe coaching.  Really enjoyed listening to him be interviewed whenever he was on the radio.

Kline retiring surprises me, but he deserves respect, for moving on with his life after baseball.    I wish him well.  He has a big time arm, too bad things did not work out, but he did get to live a dream, every kid has.  He got to play for his hometown team.

Velocity isn't everything (if there isn't movement, etc); but his average fb was 95.4 in '20. Often would pop in the upper 90s.

He's got a very live arm.  He'll be 29 pretty much all of the '21 season.  I still think he could help a team. Retiring surprises me.  Maybe something else going on, or maybe just mentally tired of the grind.

I suspect it is the last point.  Kline has not had an easy time in his journey to the majors.  Recently he got released and I guess he does not want to start over again with another organization.  I guess he feels like it is time to put the glove and ball away and get on with life.

That said, it would not surprise me to see him change his mind down the road.

He is, just 29.
