I agree but looking back at who was taken after him it doesnt look like there was all that much.
Elam or Cyprien?
Cyprien and not even close. Cyprien is a sure tackler and as much of a thumper as you can be in today's game.

I will say it was pretty cool to be in attendance at both the Ravens' and Orioles' playoff-clinching wins.

Yeah I agree with this, Elam had a reputation for being a thumper, if I recall correctly, but he hasn't shown that ability in the NFL as far as I am concerned. He has zero instincts and not enough speed to cover. Combine that with his small stature and he just never should have been a first rounder. Ed Reed wasn't the biggest guy either coming out of college nor did he light up the speed gun but the things that made him a HOFer were his instincts and hand eye coordination. Not trying to compare Elam to Reed but Elam really has nothing in terms of ability or stature that make him a 1st rounder. Clearly a missed draft pick.
