Not that this award really means anything, and he did have a magically post-season, but he wasn't even the best pitcher in his own division. Or even the second best. Hell ,he wasn't even in the top 20 for pitchers in WAR. Not that whoever voted for this award is really interested in who led the league in WAR.

I feel like this pick is kind of like People magazine and their "sexiest alive" lists. SI picking someone people might have a conversation about, like this thread right here, more than an objective best pick.
It's been a pretty big honor in the past. Don't know if it's lost some of it's luster, as magazines are fading out in general, but I remember it being pretty prestigious in years past.
