UVA, UNC, dook, FSU, GaTech, Notre Dame all to the Big 10 would be absurd.

Would this lead Coach K to refuse to play with his dook if they leave the ACC?

Idaho announced that they are moving from FBS to FCS, Eastern Michigan had to put out a letter saying that they weren't doing the same, and the UMass faculty is pushing for it.

Coincidence, or developing pattern?

Idaho did it because they had no conference to play in once the Sun Belt kicks them out. New Mexico St will be similarly orphaned, and it wouldn't be surprising if they do the same. When you're that kind of school, it's practically impossible to survive at the FBS level as an independent (good luck getting a TV deal and anyone to come play you at home).

It's not surprising faculty at some of these smaller schools want out when it comes to football. It's getting more and more expensive to play, but for the non Power-5 schools the revenues are not rising commensurately like they are in the Power 5. Faculty have a tendency to rail on athletics as a waste of money.

We could see more of this. We could also see some other small steps taken to try and help these programs stay afloat. For starters, it would help a little if other Power 5 conferences followed the Big Ten's lead and stopped scheduling FCS games. That would leave more attractive, and lucrative, games available for the non-Power 5 schools.

Orlando Sentinel: For UCF, Big 12 might as well be Big Tease

A somewhat different perspective on the Big 12/expansion, from a writer in an expansion hopeful market.

And another:

Cincinnati.com: UC football success might decide Big 12 fate

Both make one good point I tend to agree with. With the Big 12 scrapping the idea of a conference network (wisely so, given the trends in cable/satellite subscriptions) having a recognized and successful football program now matters more than just TV-market size.

Texas president: "As we look at opportunities for Big 12 expansion, I support considering @UHouston for the conference. UH is a huge asset for Texas."

So congratulations to Houston for joining the Big XII.

Only the last sentence is mine, not sure why it formatted like that. I'll try and update.

Since the Big 12 isn't starting a cable network and doesn't have to think of growing in other states, Houston makes some sense. They are the hot program right now in terms of success and name recognition among the non Power 5 schools. I still don't think that the conference necessarily likes the idea of adding another Texas school, but another way of looking at it is that it's better they grab Houston before some other Power 5 conference does.

In my first non-GoT article for BSL, I do a quick recap of the latest rumors of Big 12 expansion as well as look at the most likely candidates to be offered a spot in the conference.
