Sounds more and more like UNLV is not tethered to Nevada for conference affiliation, so there must be some other reason they were not included (for now, at least).

Memphis, Tulane, USF and UTSA released a joint statement saying they will be staying in the AAC rather than join the Pac-12.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

I am VERY disappointed that the 4 good schools, especially Memphis and Tulane chose to stay in the AAC. The Zags will make the PAC a great bball conference (and other sports) but the PAC is still short at least 2 schools for football. If they go for UNLV and some other MWC retread then I will be unhappy.

Get ready to be unhappy Steve, because other than UNLV and another MWC retread (I'm hearing Utah St is the target), there's really not much left.

I think that is what's going to shake out. Fine with UNLV but USU brings nothing to the table. Still better than the MWC but could have so much better. So dumb what the PAC offered Memphis and Tulane to leave the AAC. Huge war chest and should have used it. Is what it is.
Actually I'm following this on Twitter and this is getting nuts and literally unfolding as we speak. MWC is in a bidding war with the Pac, apparently dangling all those millions the Pac owes in exit fees to stay. Apparently UNLV will stay in the MWC, but Utah State may go. Crazy.

Latest realignment updates from out west:
- Utah State is joining the Pac-12, leaving the conference one member short of the 8 it needs
- Utah State leaving the Mountain West now leaves that conference one member short of the 8 it needs
- UNLV sent a MOU that they'd stay in the Mountain West, but that was based on the MWC having 8 members, which it won't now, so UNLV is back in play
- Same with Air Force. They actually signed on to a grant of rights in exchange for a $10M bonus. But again, that was based on the conference keeping 8 members, so now they are free to shop around again, and might have renewed interest in the AAC to join Army/Navy
- The report of Gonzaga joining the Pac-12 was premature. The two sides are in discussions, but nothing is formalized yet. The Pac probably wants to take care of finishing its football membership first (but who knows?)

So now it is official, UNLV and Air Force will stay in the Mountain West. That leaves the MWC with 6 full members....apparently Hawaii, a football-only member, does not count towards the 8 school minimum you need to be a FBS conference.
So what is the Mountain West to do? Apparently target the MAC....Brett McMurphy reports MWC commish Gloria Nevarez notified the MAC that they intend to pursue Northern Illinois and Toledo for membership.
No, I'm not making this up.

Oh, and the Pac-12 still needs one more member. Old Dominion, anyone?

NIU’s statement on last night’s reports regarding the Mountain West’s interest in adding NIU as a football-only member. “Conference realignment is a highly dynamic situation, and NIU appreciates the interest in our strong brand and proven commitment to the success of our student athletes. At this time, we have not received a formal offer to consider a change.”
Translation: We're listening, but haven't heard what we need to hear.....yet.

Gonzaga heading to the Pac-12, UTEP to the Mountain West.

Pac-12 is also said to be in discussions with Grand Canyon University. They still need one more football playing member.
Pac is quietly putting together a solid basketball conference. Gonzaga and SDSU recently played in a title game. Boise State, Utah State and Colorado State have recently been tourney fixtures. Same with GCU if they add them.
Still, the money is in football, and I’m not sure where they find a decent 8th member, let alone more.

The Mountain West is in discussions with Hawaii to become a full member of the conference. Currently a football-only member, Hawaii does not count towards the 8 members they need to be a FBS conference.
