So the 2024 football season will feature the following changes:

- USC and UCLA in the Big Ten, with the conference likely to end divisions and incorporate a new scheduling rotation

- Oklahoma and Texas in the SEC, ditto on the divisions and rotation (plus they seem likely to play 9 conference games)

- All SEC games on ESPN/ABC, no more CBS

- 12 team College Football Playoff

Dennis Dodd is good when it comes to following things on the gridiron, but I think he does a lot of clickbaiting when it comes to realignment. I think this is a more reliable source as to where things stand right now for the Big-12 and Pac-12.

The Athletic: Texas-Texas A&M rivalry's resurrection in SEC starting to come into view

One of the rare instances where realignment restores a storied rivalry instead of wrecking it. And if you are curious as to who scored the last points in the series, check out who's getting carried off the field in the photo.

I know nothing here, but I wonder if A&M is happy about this?  Felt like part of the reason they went to the SEC was to escape the UT shadow.

Maybe he's just accepting the inevitable, or the sentiment of the fans, but A&M's AD sounds good with it. They've had some memorable games in the SEC, but nothing even close to what those UT games meant.

Pete Thamel

Sources: San Diego State gave the Mountain West written notice this week that the school “intends to resign from the Mountain West Conference.” SDSU asked the Mountain West for a “one-month extension given unforeseen delays involving other collegiate athletic conferences beyond our control.”

They were facing a June 30th deadline, or else the exit fee would double from $17M to $34M. Expect an announcement over the summer that they will join the Pac-12 next year.

For those keeping score, 14 teams joined new conferences today. That’s over 10% of all the FBS.

To the Big 12 - BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF

To the AAC - Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB, UTSA

To Conference USA - Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State, Sam Houston

ESPN: Colorado discussing move from Pac-12 to Big 12, sources say

Been a lot of (mostly bogus) discussion about this for months now, but this time it feels like it's got legs. Should know more this time tomorrow, if not sooner.

Buffaloes back to the Big 12 eh? Who would have thought the Big 12 would outlive the PAC….9?

If Colorado is the only defector, the Pac will go on. They'll probably add SDSU to replace Colorado (sorry, SMU) and be a 10 team conference.

The big question is whether or not others would also leave. Chances are the two Arizona schools and Utah would be welcomed to the Big 12 if they wanted to join.

NCAA rules say you have to have a minimum of 7 full members to be a conference; so Cal, Stanford, OR, OSU, WA, WSU would have to take on at least one new school immediately just to survive if all the 4-corner schools bolt. And since none of the remaining Pac would have anywhere else to go, that's probably what they'll do. But to have enough game inventory to sell to media companies, seems like you'd want no less than 10 members.

So the CU Board of Regents meeting tomorrow (5pm ET) where they will reportedly be voting to leave the Pac for the Big 12 is public, and will even be live-streamed for those who just can't get enough realignment drama.
