I mean at this point is going from the MWC to the AAC anything but a lateral move?
With the increase in travel costs, I actually think it could potentially be a downgrade for some schools.

Sources: The American Athletic Conference is expected examine expansion this week, with six schools expected to send applications. The AAC is expected to receive an application from – FAU, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice and UAB this week. The expectation is that they will be accepted and the AAC will grow to a 14-team football league. (Also 14 teams in hoops.)
RIP, Conference USA.

Southern Miss is leaving Conference USA for the Sun Belt. Old Dominion and Marshall are expected to do the same shortly. James Madison is also expected to jump from FCS to join the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt is also expected to boot non-football playing members Arkansas-Little Rock and Texas-Arlington. This puts Conference USA on life support.

Marshall officially announced they're joining the Sun Belt today.
James Madison should be announcing next week.

Mid 90s CUSA basketball was nice.

I'm old enough to remember when it was the Metro Conference. Louisville and Memphis (State) ruled. Georgia Tech and FSU played hoops there too, prior to joining the ACC (albeit like 15 years apart).

Conference USA is going to have to talk some FCS schools into moving up if they want to survive. Only one I've heard rumored so far is Sam Houston State.

Missouri Valley Conference is adding Murray State from the OVC. The OVC now loses two (Murray State and Belmont) to the MVC.
MVC is expected to add one more school for an even 12 - looking like it will be University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) with University of Texas-Arlington (UTA) and UMKC as longshots.
Matt Norlander reported late last night that if UTA doesn't get the nod, they'll head to the WAC.
