I like this game for MD.

It's a name opponent, and a program which has a had a lot of recent success.

David Shaw is regarded as one of the best Head Coaches in the country.

MD gets to go out a new area, and introduce themselves to the CA talent.

Going to be tough... with Stanford not just effectively getting to play at home, but also ending their year playing better.

The loss vs. Rutgers still leaves a sour taste. This is an opportunity for MD to end their season on a positive note.

Edsall v Shaw should be an epic battle of the minds.

Don't want to stray way off topic, but what about David Shaw for next HC of the 49ers? Or the Raiders? He could either follow his Stanford predecessor or his old man. The NFL regular season ends Dec 28, and this game is the 30th. Just pondering.

The last 3 weeks of Stanford's season are what I'm keying on. Close game vs. Utah... winning a rivalry game vs. Cal... and getting the big win vs. UCLA.  The Bruins had a lot to play for in that game, and were controlled by the Cardinal.

I actually think this is a pretty great situation for the program right now.

If you win, you can tout a bowl win against a decent-name program in Stanford.

If you lose, it's a bowl game on a Tuesday night that hardly anyone is going to watch anyway, so can just be swept under the rug, so to speak.

A New Year's bowl game against one of those SEC power teams would have been cool, but I can't imagine that would have went well for the Terps.

Regarding recruiting: I'm sure that rival programs will be sure to bring up a loss to Stanford as more proof that we can't beat a quality team. So, while you feel it will be swept under a rug, I think it will matter to some degree. Losing like we did to Rutgers... again, Rutgers... and another loss to Stanford will have us at 7-6 for the year. Losses do matter.

I agree we might've been blown out again Auburn, etc... and while I'm pulling for a win over the Cardinal, I wouldn't be surprised by another big loss.

Everyone knows this is going to come down to line play. Stanford always has some of the best lines in the country. Mike Locksley will need to use C.J. Brown's mobility to the fullest extent to move the ball against the Cardinal's defense. Basically I think he needs to use a very similar gameplan to the one he used against Michigan. Rollout passes, read-options, and designed quarterback runs. I'll have a more in-depth preview as we get closer to the game.

I certainly could be wrong, I just feel that positive recruiting is so much more effective than negative recruiting for teenagers.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out that negative recruiting happens much more infrequently than we think.  Because most kids don't care about negative recruiting, they're young and cocky and think they're going to go in and change the program by themselves.

So for me I just think it's one of those deals where a win is something you can point to but a loss doesn't hurt you much.

Can't believe any of you guys think the Terps can win this one. The Terps beat loser teams during the regular season. They don't beat legitimate teams especially when the other team has 3 weeks to prepare and it comes down to coaching more than anything.

Maryland has defeated 2 winning teams in 4 years under Randy Edsall. TWO. T.W.O. 2.

There is a good chance Stanford wins, but it's not like upsets have never happened.

Yeah, let's just call it now. Stanford wins, no matter what. No reason for Maryland to make the trip. Give me a break...

It's an opportunity for MD to take another incremental step-forward. Interested to see what happens.

Of course Maryland has a chance.  It's just not a very good one.  At all.

Maryland would have almost literally zero chance against an elite team, like when they played OSU, or even MSU or Wisconsin this year.  Stanford is a level or two below those teams, so there is a chance Maryland pulls a major upset.  But it would be a major upset, without question, as Maryland is a good two or three steps below Stanford.  Stanford played 6 top-25 teams.  They had one big win, three 3-point losses, one big loss, and one blowout loss.
