New regime? Improved focus on player development? Recent success (so far) with Bundy, Machado, Schoop, etc.

There's your answer waroriole. At least there is a real plan in place.

Btw, I just reAd that the Orioles are down to Correa, Gausmann, Zimmer and Fried...haven't heard a lot bout Fried.

Melewski said that was from "industry sources." may not be a sure thing. Also, it assumes Buxton is gone.

;) Yeah it's a little more than gut on this one. Not that I really believe ANYTHING until 6pm tomorrow.

I highly doubt Buxton falls to us at 4 (90% sure he goes at 2, if not I can't imagine the Mariners NOT taking him).

I think we win if we get any of: Buxton, Correa, Giolito, Gausman

I'd be less happy, but still ok with: Zimmer, Zunino, Fried

What's the knock on Zimmer?

He shot up draft boards sitting 94-98 earlier this spring, but he's been more 90-94 lately. I've also heard his fastball is relatively straight (just like Appel) which worries me.

Curveball is supposed to be quite good, but is inconsistent now.

Ultimately, if you have a straight fastball, you better locate it well, something I'm not confident he can do. That's why I'd rather have Gausman over Appel or Zimmer

All 3 of the big 3 have little issues. Velo drops, inconsistent secondaries, lack of movement. They are all good pitchers, but there's no CLEAR TOR starter in this mix, more like a bunch of solid #2/3 guys if they pan out. Usually there's at least ONE guy that has that you see TOR in, but this year it was Gio and the injury kinda derailed that. I think he'll go UCLA and come back the no. 1 pick in a couple years (if he stays healthy), but you might see him get hurt, have TJ surgery his freshman year and come back strong later. There's just a lot of torque on that elbow throwing as hard as he does and snapping off sliders, just like Strasburg and his curve.

Keith Law seems to think Gio will sign from what I have read...but that may have also been based off of the assumption that he would be drafted in top 10.

Top 5 I think. The money difference just drops too much from 1-10, I can't see him signing in the teens. If he does, some team is going to get a STEAL.

I have a feeling that some teams have gotten a number from Giolito and he ends up going much earlier than expected.
