After losing each of their last three games, including their most recent one in double-overtime against Ohio State, Maryland returns home to face off against Iowa. The Terps won the first meeting a few weeks ago in Iowa City by three points. Since then the Hawkeyes have gone 3-2, with wins over Michigan, Ohio State, and Minnesota, and losses to Indiana and Penn State.

Like Maryland, Iowa is also set to miss the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first time since 2017-18 that Fran McCaffrey's team has failed to qualify for the tournament.

KenPom Rankings

  • Maryland: #58 (#187 AdjO, #5 AdjD; #304 AdjT)
  • Iowa: #57 (#12 AdjO, #164 AdjD; #18 AdjT)

Given the state of Maryland basketball, it'll almost certainly be more entertaining to watch Fran than the action on the court.

Hasn't been a good year for Big Ten basketball. Maryland, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State are all having bad years.

Honestly it's a bad product.  Watch some of the top games from any of the other P5 leagues. The difference in athleticism, pace of play, general skill is notable.

Maryland enters this game as 4.5-point favorites. ESPN gives them a 64.4% chance to win.

Another cold start for Maryland, shooting 1/6 from the field with three early turnovers.

Harris-Smith having a nice game off the bench, 11 points here early in the second half.

Geronimo is officially out for the remainder of this game after suffering a knee injury. Traore also goes down with what looks to be a somewhat serious leg injury.

Credit to Maryland, they’re still playing really hard. Now have a four-point lead.

This game has a very similar feel to the one in Iowa City a few weeks ago. Maryland starts slow, but their defense keeps them in it until they turn it on in the second half.

These were two middling teams in a very suspect year for what is supposed to be a good conference.

The fact Maryland won means good things, or rather, the boat isn't as leaky as previously thought.

These wins don't mean much of anything.

The rest of the season will be all about seeing if Harris-Smith and Kaiser can improve.

They are 300th in the country in FG attempts. You'd need a pair of 8 foot guys to somehow make that work.
