Absolutely. Why would he not be?

How you can say no to Joe Flacco while Earnest Byner is in there is beyond me.

I know this is a legit article wrote and based on fact.
But, dang, if this had just been a post by a poster, I would have called troll.
He has done way more than enough to earn team HOF status.

Flacco absolutely belongs in the Ring of Honor. I agree with everything you said Mike. Without Flacco, the Ravens don't win their second Super Bowl. His career after that point had more downs than ups, but he gets in on the strength of that amazing 2012 playoff run and the way he carried himself through it all. He represented the franchise and the fans well both on and off the field. I will be delighted to see him honored with his name in the Ring of Honor.

ROH isnt a debate. Its an easy yes. The debate is whether #5 should be retired. Do the Ravens officially retire jerseys?

I don't see a logical argument for not putting him in the ROH. His jersey however, I'm not sure about. He was the Ravens first, good to great, homegrown QB. He broke the streak of Stoney Case's, Anthony Wrights, Chris Redmonds, Kyle Bollers, ect.
But with that said, he was never a HOF type QB. (outside of his obscene playoff run that got him a ring.) I'd be on the fence with retiring his number. ROH is a no brainer. But I feel like retiring a number should take a HOF type career like a Ray Lewis.
Football has too many players that need numbers. I agree you should only retire for HOF type careers.
AFAIK, the Ravens have not officially retired any numbers, but do not make available 19, 20, 52, and 75. I could see them doing the same for 55 and 73.

With respect to the author and acknowledging that he firmly is in the obvious yes column, the mere question here offends me as a Raven fan. I'm unaware of any argument against Flacco getting a Ring of Honor recognition, I'm going to choose to believe there isn't a meaningful contingent of Ravens fans that hold that stupid of an opinion.

I get the argument for retiring Flacco's number. He was the first legit, Ravens-drafted QB in franchise history who happened to lead them to 7 playoff appearances, 3 AFC title games, and 1 Super Bowl victory.
The bar should be raised for the next guy to have his number retired, but this is your first legit, homegrown QB.

Right. Thats the debate not ROH. I don't think #5 should be retired (offically or not officially) but there is an argument for it.I get the argument for retiring Flacco's number. No question about it.

I can't imagine any Ravens fan objecting to this.
The Bozo on 105.7 maybe.

You know what though? That's what made Flacco so likable. He had his detractors within the Ravens fanbase, but he shut 'em all up when he went Bo Jackson mode late 2012 to scarf down that SB trophy that most people really didn't see coming a month or so before.

I don't think they should retire his number. He wasn't THAT important. Maybe if he had won a couple of more Super Bowls but the Ring of Honor, sure. Before Lamar, he was probably the best, most consistent quarterback the franchise had. And he was a winner.
