What I've been after is a way to mirror my iPhone onto a screen in the car instead of mounting my phone to the windshield with a suction cup.

The new Kias have the android auto already. I've played around with it and it is very, very sweet.

My fear is that the car manufacturers are gonna use this to really, really push sales of self-driving cars... which is fine... except that one consequence of them doing that will be that driving your car yourself is about to become very, very, very expensive, insurance-wise...

Yeah, well... the advent of cars was bad news for blacksmith jobs... the problem is whether or not we have new kinds of jobs coming from somewhere... and that doesn't look good... unless of course we decide that taking-care-of-each-other jobs are worthwhile professions... that the cost of labor is a *good* thing, not a bad thing...

I wouldn't tend trust the Sierra Club about car recommendations... but they came up with a list of cheap electric cars they like... so, here it is... (I'd sure as hell read up on what actual car people say before I bought any of these...)

They found out the hard way that mastering the supply chain for little electronic gizmos when you own the product space is way different than mastering it for life size vehicles when you're the new guy and can't promise suppliers volume... plus, the markups wouldn't be anything near the obscene margins they're used to... so, rather than work on it for the betterment of mankind, they just quit...
