I need a need a new phone. Was never crazy about the original iPhones. Have had a Samsung galaxy 3 for three years now. I have an iPad and I never use it because my phone does everything (I think) it does. Like galaxy a lot but as usual after three years, its giving me trouble. Running slow. Shutting off whenever it feels like. Only sending me notifications some times.

Anyway...Im not going to ask which is better, because there is probably a bias (like PS4 vs. XBox one).

I use my phone for this right here. Surfing the web. Its often my camera. Email. Not so much games. (Sporcle app passes the time, but thats it).

Im also fed up with my PC and am going to switch over to an Apple MacBook in the near future. Should I get the iPhone so it is compatible with my computer to be? Not sure how the cloud works. But If I could say, upload pictures ive taken with my phone, to my computer with a push of a button, that would be ideal. Galaxy im still plugging it in the usb, thumbing through folders, finding pictures, copying them over....you know. If I could access files on my computer, from my phone, that would be ideal too. I think I can do that if I upload them to Google Docs, but I dont understand that either.

Also...if you have an iPhone I assume you use it as your music player. When you play music though it, how long does your battery last?

Last thing. The Galaxy note, or iPhone Plus, the larger versions, anyone have those? Are they too big for your pocket, for holding up to your ear? Anyone had both regular ones and larger ones and prefer one to the other?

Another thing. Anyone ever bought their phone at Best Buy or another retail store? Are there incentiv es to do so, or should I just go to the Verizon store?

Have an iPhone. Have had one for years. Battery is always an issue. Especially with music. Always buy at Apple Store because I usually have a few questions

Noticed iPhone says battery lasts 10 hours if browsing. Would you call that accurate? What questions have you had for the apple store folks?

I don't know what you should get... but if you get an android phone, the Moto X is hard to beat in terms of features and price...

If you join Jet.com (former amazon guys trying to compete with amazon), you get 20% cashback (to spend on their store) by going thru their site to Motorola... where you customize how you want the phone... plus, if you do it this month, it's an extra 10%... so 30% off what is already a good price... choice between the big 5.7" 2015 Pure version (which works with any carrier) or the less-huge 5.2" 2014 Pure version (which is cheaper)... Motorola does android right...

OnePlus also offers top-tier phones at mid-tier prices... both the OnePlus One and the OnePlus Two are great... (if you travel outside the country much, the OnePlus Two takes 2 SIM cards, so you can get one from what ever country you visit and just switch back and forth...)

I'm not the right guy to ask about size... I have the original 4.7" Moto X... which is great... but I wish it was even smaller when it comes to carrying it around... I keep thinking I should dig out my plain ole flip phone...

I think they are made so you have to get a new one every few years. My first cell phone, the old Nokia's, I had for like six years.

Have a feeling that as apps update, the updates take up more space, filling your phones memory and making it sluggish to where these things happen.

Also, went to bed at 100% battery. Woke up to 63% without even using the thing for six hours.

I think a lot of it is the battery. I might still have my original Storm if I hadn't needed to replace the battery completely three times in the last two years before getting fed up. Didn't have any real issues with the phone itself.

Same with my Galaxy. It still runs perfectly well other than the battery (and a fairly severe cosmetic issue indirectly related to the battery problems).

The price premium on the Galaxy line you mentioned on Android and the iPhone is too high to be worthwhile.  Ignoring the fact that iOS  and everything from Apple is terrible and Samsung's TouchWiz Android skin is significantly slower than many others, you're betting off getting something like the OnePlus 2, Nexus 5X/6P, or the Moto X Pure and saving hundreds on a full featured phone.  You're not a power user so you could even go super cheap with Moto G.  Personally I'm upgrading from the Galaxy S4 to the Moto X Pure fairly soon.

I stuck with Android and ended up getting the LG G4. We asked the sales guy to show us a few, and he never brought out the Galaxy. Said they are going downhill and he doesn't even recommend them anymore because so many people have had problems and brought them back.

G4 had a 4K screen and either a 16 or 20 MP camera. iPhones is only 8. G4 also was the fastest phone on the market and we get a $400 rebate Visa gift card. ($200 x 2 phones).

I was always under the impression that there is iPhone and Galaxy and the rest is garbage. Doesn't appear to be the case. Think I'm going to be very happy with the cheaper phone.

There are a few good nuggets on the android side here and there. I always try to weigh them all as a whole, so its not as much iPhone vs galaxy or HTC or whatever, but the best of what isn't apple vs apple.

The upcoming moto is supposed to be really good too. Their battery life is the best, and supposedly unbreakable glass is a nice touch.

Do we really believe that though?  I'm still going with the Pure because that Turbo Maxx 2 or whatever is Verizon only and I'm switching carriers in the next few months.

Some tech-site will try to break it just as soon as they get their mitts on one... until then, who knows?

There's supposedly a non-Verizon version coming... in the UK, it's called the Moto X Force, who knows about here...

It's about the same size as the 2015 Moto X Pure... a micro-tad shorter, a micro-tad wider.. a mini-tad thinner but without the nice, hand-friendly Moto X contour... and with a slightly smaller screen (5/4" vs 5/7") at the same completely bonkers resolution which no human eyeball can percieve (gotta please the spec-shoppers, evidently)... http://www.phonearen...hones/9694,9774

It's also allegedly gonna cost noticeably more, based on what UK tech-watchers say...

FWIW... unless one has particular spec-needs, I think the 2nd-gen Moto-X (2014) Pure is the current bargain...

It's not humongous, it'll fit in your pocket way better (http://www.phonearen...hones/9694,8897)... is pretty much Galaxy 5 size and spec, but with superior human factors.... 5.2" AMOLED screen in the most rez a person can actually see (1920x1080)... at MotoMaker it starts at $299... add $25 if you want a leather or wood back... add $50 of you want 32GB instead of 16GB... add another $50 if you want another 32 on top of that (= 64GB).... the OLED screen lets only the needed pixels light up, and the blacks are *BLACK*... it's got the very useful wave-your-hand-over-it trick... and it's unlocked, and will work with almost any carrier...

The only downside I see is the absence of a micro-SD slot...  but how much RAM do you actually need?

If I was buying one, I'd get a 32GB Pure version with a std back, and put a non-offensive thin bumper case on it (so why pay for leather?)... which makes it $350 before the jet.com 30% jet-cash... which brings it down to $245 plus sales tax....  a 64GB version would be $280 plus tax... I'm tempted to get one, even though I have zero need for it, just because of the dang bargain-factor...

Disclaimer: I do not want to shit on your phone choice.  If you have an android and love it, cheers.  Same with an iPhone.

When I moved here, work had a few extra Galaxy S6's.  So I've been using it for the last month, and I do not like it at all.

A few really annoying quirks.  First, when you text someone, there is a little bubble that appears in the top right of the screen EVERY TIME you text someone.  I delete it, and it comes right back after the next text.  I cannot find a way to disable this either.

The auto correct is HORRENDOUS.  Its much much worse than the iphone.  Another annoying little thing is after you hit the symbols button to select a ? or ! or , it doesn't revert back to the ABC page.  What in the hell man.

Another thing I hate is when I select a tune to listen to in my car, when I hit the up volume button, it changes the song randomly??? I can't duplicate this when I want to though.

I'm sure I'm leaving things out, but I can't take it any longer.  I ordered an unlocked 5C from Amazon and I'm putting this prepaid SIM in it.

As an aside to this rant, its amazing the amount of apps that allow you to call and text for free just using data.  I'm never paying for a traditional cell phone again when I get back to the States.  Project Fi looks like a much better option.

I'm not sure about the bubble. I have the S7 and I haven't seen it. So far as the autocorrect, that's connected to the keyboard you're using. Cool thing about android is you can change it. Download swiftkey keyboard from the play store and see if you like it any better. It has the best autocorrect I've seen on any keyboard/iPhone.

Tonight I lay to rest my HTC Windows phone, with all its quirks and sh***y apps.  Getting an Iphone 6s and entering the modern age of apps that are available and work.

I downloaded that keyboard.  Its better but still not great.

Another thing that pisses me off is when I'm driving, and want to skip a song either on music or Spotify from the lock screen, the > is so close to the X to close the program, that I hit it all the time.  Who designed this thing?

Its not for me at all.  Maybe the Moto is better but the Galaxy is atrocious.  I tried.

Guess this is the best thread to put this? Anyone know what size/wattage the newest iPhone charger brick is? It’s the bigger one. My buddy has it and it charges phones quicker than Mark Turgeon’s teams get to 10 points in a game.

I want one. Help?
